? Which Resale Campground Membership to get ?

OK,

We are finally about to hit the road, extended play.

We are BPOE Elks, Senior Citizens, Retired Military, and extremely experienced RV'ers with a 2005 40' pusher (some parks are year built sensitive, and many are size sensitive);

Because of our BPOE Elks, Senior Citizens, and Retired Military, we already have lots of options, and historically, we like to keep moving on to the next adventure.

Also, we enjoy nice ambiance camping locations, lack of hook-ups is ok, just not unappealing ambiance budget overflow

Resale of assignable lifetime Campground memberships come up, and we are going to get one...

??? WHICH ONE ???

!!! Thanks in Advance !!!

As a retired military member I find DOD campgrounds are good options while traveling. I've looked a couple as possible winter locations but the timing hasn't worked for us. Our winter location / home base is in Texas and Thousand Trails works very well for us.

We have family in Portland OR and spent the summer out there in TT parks this year. We also have kids in Florida and TT and military campgrounds work for that.

I strongly recommend that you do as the first reply said. Don't buy anything now. Give it a year and see where you might be able to save money.

The only discount camping program I feel is essential for a traveling RVer is Passport America. We use ours about 10-20 nights per year, and it pays for itself several times over

We have memberships in 2 different organizations. Thousand Trails, and Coast to Coast. Between the two, Thousand Trails win hands down !!! We have had problems with Coast to Coast, and trying to get rid of the membership, and contemplating legal actions. If you do decide to go with one. choose Thousand Trails. ...Good Luck and Happy Camping !!

RESALE ONLY......

We purchased a resale membership for $950 total.....Home park buy in/1st year dues (Frozen at $59/yr) PLUS Deluxe affiliate membership (up to 14 day stays) with:
C2C, RPI & AOR
After 1st year we didn't renew with RPI or AOR----lots of duplication with C2C, not as user friendly as C2C and didn't see need for 3 affiliate programs

So after 1st year buy in/yearly dues the 2 memberships cost us $188/yr then that increased to $198/yr a few years later.
Still under $200/yr and if we used the C2C for 20 nights we broke even ($10/night)

We used it much more then that..we would stay full 14 days at a time WHEN we used it.
And when in area of our 'home' park we could stay for 14 days free.

Are memberships worth while ?
YES provided you purchase CHEAP via RESALE
and you USE them

Not as destination CGs but as traveling/cost cutting CGs for FTrs

FTrs have to park their home SOMEWHERE every night so might as well do it for $10/15 night FHU

We also boondocked...not Wally Docked....but dry camped
Used fairgrounds, city parks and State/National/COE parks along with PassPort America at public RV parks
Just depended on where we were, where we were traveling and what was conveniently available (we traveled back roads/secondary roads....Small Town USA)

SO .....
YES memberships work. RESALE (cheap) and Frequent Use

Be extremely cautious about buying into a membership campground.

Several years ago we bought a Western Horizons Campground membership. At the time we bought they had 22 parks and said they were adding more. What they really did was collect our dues while selling off the parks. At least two of the parks were actually just sold off to the son of the owner removing them from the membership unless we wanted to rejoin the (new) parks.

Not saying all campground memberships are crooked but, if you see the name Loken as an owner anywhere run.

I have Thousand Trails , if you are going to stay over 180 days a year you may want to join. Here are some places to look at and talk to the reps. about your needs. http://www.campgroundmembershipoutlet.com/ .. https://www.rvparkstore.com/rv-park-and-campground-memberships .. hope this helps.

Be very careful about signing a membership. You may be a limited partner with no say in camping or yearly fees. Furthermore as a limited partner you may be (likely will be) legally libel for property taxes and all debt including any mortgage and bankruptcy.

Over the years we've seen lots of membership CG changes not necessarily for the better in ones that we had some interest. For us the right longer term choice was to not join.

We only part-time travel but my advice is DO NOT GET ONE. It's essentially a time-share in different clothing. People I know who did buy in regretted it. They're very hard to resell and then you're stuck with annual maintenance fees.

If you like to change up adventures the weekly and monthly rates do just fine, leaves you free to roam where you wish, and you don't have the legal and real estate hassles of maintenance fees and resell.

Not a recommendation, but I am planning to check out KQ Rancho near Julian CA. It part of Colorado Adventures, with about 8 RV parks.

Before you spend a considerable amount on any memberships, you should get some experience first on your adventure. However, Passport America, at $40 per year, might be a place to start. You get 50% off select campgrounds.

I'd say to hit the road for a year, see if you find some areas you want to extend your time in, and then look into it.
I know folks tend to get enamored with timeshares, and always seem a couple of years later to be desperate to get out of them.

I have been full timing 11 years and never owned one.
I stay mostly monthly with some weekly. Much more flexible.
