Williams AZ -- Kaibab Lake or Cataract Lake NF

I am thinking about overnight at either Kaibab Lake or Cataract Lake on my way to Grand Canyon. I understand they are NFS campground and that Kaibab may have more campers.

Your thoughts are welcome.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

I'd opt for Kaibab Lake CG, too. But it might fill up early. Have Dogtown and White Horse CGs as options. BTW, have you considered Bonito CG (Coconino NF off US Rt 89 east of Flagsff) with Sunset Crater Volcano and Wupatki National Monuments right there inlieu of Petrified Forest? My family found both much more interesting than "looking at a bunch of old rocks, again." Their initial reaction to the Grand Canyon's South Rim was similiar but the North Rim left a major impression. Well, you can only do what you can do and hope for the best when travel with off-springs .

I agree.

But, you can (or at least could when we were there) overnight at the gift shop on the south end of the Petrified Forest (on US 180) and then go to the GC.

I stayed at Kaibab Lake in Sept 2014. Here are my comments from my blog:

Nice CG with 73 paved sites in 2 separate areas, The smaller area is by the lake, while the other is higher up the hill. There is also a group area. Plenty of pines for some shade. Lake very low. Convenient to Grand Canyon, about 55 mi N. Eateries and stores only about 5 mi away in Williams. $20.

For a couple of pictures see my 2014 blog here and scroll down to the date 9/15/14.

Ten-X will not work. After overnight we are doing a long (ALL DAY) day trip to Petrified Forest National Park (300 miles RT) in the TV leaving the TT at the campground then to Grand Canyon the next AM. Ten-X adds 100 miles RT to the plan.

Ten-X national forest campground would be the best. It's right outside the park entrance.
