Yellowstone/Tetons

Hello,

Planning a late June from eastern Iowa to Yellowstone and Teton area. Thinking of brief stops in rapid city or deadwood, and was thinking a few days outside of north gate around Livingston and then down to Teton area.

I haven't been there since I was a kid, any assistance would be greaT. Towns, campgrounds, where I should spend the most time, etc.

Thanks in advance, also open to any good stops on the way it back!

Colter Bay in Tetons and Grizzly in West Yellowstone.

Stay at the Colter Bay RV Park in the Tetons. FHU inside the park.

WE stayed near the east entrance west of Cody. Cody is worth a visit for the Buffalo Bill Museum. We stayed at Yellowstone Valley Inn RV Park just a 30 minute drive to the east entrance to Yellowstone and a short drive back into Cody. For the Tetons we stayed in Dubois WY at the KOA. We loved the little town of Dubois. It's about an hour to the entrance to the Tetons but the drive is beautiful! You can take US191 south from Yellowstone to Dubois.

We've done 2 trips to Yellowstone, including one May 2015. We had a great stay in Island Park, ID at Red Rock RV park. Its an easy drive to Yellowstone's west entrance. For us, it was much better than staying in the park, which was what we did the visit prior. http://www.redrockrvpark.com/

Great point! Class A, 37 footer...2 full baths so I want to enjoy the full hookups! I was planning on staying outside the park as well, probably north entrance.

Spend the most time in Yellowstone & the Tetons. 🙂 What kind of camping rig do you have? That would be helpful info for those of us who want to help you with suggestions.

If you need hookups, your only choice inside Yellowstone is Fishing Bridge RV Park. Otherwise you will need to camp outside the park, or choose a no-hookups site. Mammoth CG (no hookups) is friendly to campers bigger than tents; Gardiner has a couple private CGs with hookups (we stayed at Rocky Mt RV Park there; it was decent & has some nice views). The road from Gardiner into the park, specifically involving the arch, is under major construction this year, though - just FYI.

IMO the best CG for the Tetons (with hookups) is Colter Bay RV Park. Lots of folks recommend Colter Bay CG (north end) or Gros Ventre CG (south end) for the Tetons - no hookups in either one.

Be aware that many CGs that take reservations will already be pretty booked up. Good luck!
