Door latch replacement

The Trimark door latch just failed with us inside so I was at least able to open and get out the emergency exit window in the rear. Not a lot of fun and not exactly a fast exit and wouldn't even try getting our 45 pound dog out that way. I have heard of other people having a failure of this brand latch and they are used on many brands of MH's and TT's. The latching piece is made of cast zinc with a very thin section that breaks. Had to drive straight through instead of stopping for the night because of the dogs and can't imagine what we would have done in case of a fire.
I found the same lock on Amazon for $100 but no way will I buy the same thing and worry about the same thing happening. I read Trimark has a new lock you can buy direct for $200 that has a steel instead of zinc latch. I also found an electric lock from Bauer for $230 that will fit just fine and am considering that. Also found one from RVlock that includes a key fob for $260 but have read reviews it won't work because it sticks out too far for the screen door.
I want to order something in the next day or so and would love to get some advice from others who have had and solved this problem. Thanks much, Jim.

Not exactly. There are also two screws that come into the side of the door you can only reach after the door is open. Jim.

Good reason to buy a Class C. You have 3 doors so you can always get out.

Just kidding.

There was a recent thread on the thor forum, same trimark latch. Might be helpful to you.

I got mine here, they are now all keyed alike. http://www.rvlocksandmore.com/

I really like the keyless door latches because we always have lots of people camping with us & it eliminates key hassles.

We have one from AP Products & it works well, fingers crossed. The first one was DOA, the second failed after about a week, the third has worked for almost a month so far. Bought it from Amazon so returns were no trouble.

This might be a good time to think about changing all the locks and keying them alike. I didn't have your problem but the major expense on my project was the entry door lock. I also bought a number of padlocks that I use for various things, all keyed alike. Now I carry just two keys for my 5er, I have quality locks all around, and I eliminated using the CH751 key found on all RVers keychain. I solved more then one problem for just a little more money over the entry door lock cost. I used RVLock. Hope that helps ...
