How I fixed our stabilizers for 48 cents

When we purchased our trailer the stabilizers were pretty beat up. After just a few trips both rear stabilizers were unusable so I decided against the original plan to replace them and instead repaired them.

What I did was cutoff the ends and weld 3/4" nuts on. It took me about an hour and saved us about $100 in the process.

Thunder, there is one more priceless asset that you forgot to tally -- at age 66, having hands steady enough to hold a solder gun! I find at 63 that I have to brace my hands when doing real precision work. Kind of a hassle, but I get it done somehow.

Congratulations! Most people don't fix stuff they just replace it. They take it to a "technician". They just look up part numbers and replace the whole unit at MSRP. Recently fixed a Trimark RV door remote by using my eyes and brain to find a broken solder joint and fixing it with a 35 year old solder gun and a 25 year old roll of solder. Amortize that out at 66 years of breathing plus tools and it equals $0.00 to fix.

Everyone has a welder & grinder, right? You can usually get a welder & helper with just a few beers and a good friend if you're in a jam.

Ha!!! If you figure that one out let me know. I can't get better than 12mpg from my truck unloaded;)
