Ice Maker

We got our new portable ice maker yesterday, no more cool tea and beverages. That thing spits out the ice cubes at a good rate and only needs 115V and water. I know we will enjoy it during the summer months.

We have one and love it. There is a quick fix for those that say it waters down their drink....drink faster!

It's a common complaint of these portable units, that they don't keep ice frozen. They aren't meant to. They make ice and as the unit operates it gets colder and colder from the ice itself. If left plugged in to work they get pretty cold after a few days. No, they will never keep ice frozen.

Bag the ice and freeze it, if you have a freezer with the spare room. Otherwise, just use the damned ice. It works. ๐Ÿ™‚

We have one and have really been pleased with it. Makes a lot of ice. Our new trailer has an icemaker already in the fridge but we'll still use the portable for outside purposes and such.

Ours is an Emerson we got from Target.

I can't remember what brand ours is (I bought it at Target a few Christmases ago for $99), but it spits ice out quickly, and remains frozen. The way DH and DD like to munch on ice, it was a great purchase!!

Bought mine 6 years ago and going strong. A few days prior to going away on a weekend I start making ice at home and put the new soft ice in the deep freezer in the basement.
Works for me.
If we go on a road trip I make ice prior and also put a days worth in freezer in trailer and keep up as need be.
Paid for 3 times over. Think mine is a Salton brand.

After reading these posts, I realized that I was basing my post on an ice maker I bought 20 years ago.

We are leaving next Thursday on a 2 month trip from South Florida to the Mid-West so I thought I would try again.

My Dometic HZB-12SA arrived today and I'm very pleased with it's performance. It will certainly provide our ice needs.

We use our igloo ice maker every outing. We let the ice melt and refreeze so the ben stays full as we use it. $99

It does not keep the ice, I have a cooler that I dump it in which is no problem. I have been making it and placing in bags for the deep freezers. As stated it saves me $ 2.00 a bag for ice.
But it will make my beverages feel a lot better in the hot Fl. temps..

Mine dumps a batch of ice every eight minutes. While not very hard ice and it will melt if left in the machine the melted water just goes back into the reservoir to be re frozen. We collect the ice and store it in the freezer where it gets good and hard and assures a large supply in case of company. At $2 a bag for ice It has paid for its self many times over.

They make soft ice that waters down drinks fast.

I had 2 of them. One quit working in less then a year. The other one I gave away and replaced it with a stand alone real Ice Maker.

Be sure to read the box or instructions. Mine says to remove the ice from the maker and put in freezer otherwise it will just melt. It is a maker of ice, not a keeper of ice. Yours may be different.

Never thought about getting an ice machine until I walked into Home Depot and saw them on sale for $99, couldn't resist.

One of the best purchases for the RV.
