Stove fan vent

One thing that I've noticed is that most TT's and 5er's have the stove vent externally. Most Class A's I've seen have the stove vent back into the rig. As a tall cook, I'm not a big fan of the "blow in your face" stove fan. Has anyone removed their hood/microwave, cut the side wall, and changed theirs over to an external vent? I'd be concerned about wiring in the wall behind, but with it being above the stove I don't believe there will be any.

Bumpy, I have no clue why they have latches. If the vent was metal I could understand. With a magnet on mine now it stays closed so no air or flapping anyway. I could not reach mine without a ladder.

My vent latches are easily done/undone with an awning rod from the ground. I like the magnet idea, but I don't think it would work reliably with our variable speed fan on its slower settings.

Thanks for all the responses. Not trying to say none of the Class A's had this, just seemed to be more with no exterior than in the TTs and 5ers. If yours came with exterior vent, wonderful, congratulations. I was interested if anyone had done the mod. Thanks to you who described how you did yours.

Yep, mine now blows outside and much quieter. The vent flap was modified by adding a small magnet to keep it closed until the fan is turned on. What a dumb design to have them blow inside. They must be bain ded. Sheesh.

my new one has two small twisting lugs to hold the door shut? all those years my other ones that didn't have these lugs had no issue, why now?

Used "stud finder' to detect any structural supports in area to cut. Some stud finders will detect electrical and metal.

Our fan blew into RV. DW wanted it lowered because to was to high for her to use safely. Lowered it 6 inches and put a vent on outside. When I lowered it found that inside wall already had the proper wall cut out for fan. Had to cut outside wall and put vent cover in place. No more heat buildup from cooking inside.

Thanks pigman1. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thought of it. I've hung a micro/fan combo in the S&B and i agree they are heavy as h...

robatthelake, glad you haven't had to address this. I hate the idea of poking a hole in the rig, on purpose, but really do want to vent this out the side.

Yeah, did it on an '08 Tiffin Allegro Bus. I did have to cut a metal wall strut, but was able to structure around it. Tiffin store had the outside vent fixture and a short metal rectangular duct to get the air outside. Not an afternoon job, but do-able for a reasonably handy guy. Just be sure your microwave has the ability to be converted without a hassle. We had a Sharp and changeover was easy. Had to build a bit of a frame to hold it though. That beggar was heavy.
