Trick for monitoring freezer while absent:

2 week biz trip + freezer full of tri-tip + thaw/re-freeze paranoia =

A. Place plastic cup of water in freezer until frozen.
B. Place a few coins on top of the frozen water.
C. On return, if coins not at bottom of cup, no thaw/re-freeze event.

Back onsite, I was confidently content to flip a few dry coins before flipping a few steaks.

Another idea: Place a couple ice cubes in a glass, and place in freezer. If you only have one BIG ice disc, then you've gone through the thaw/freeze cycle.

So, what if two coins are on the bottom and one is still on top? 🙂
