Vent Covers or Not?

I just got done cleaning the roof vent covers from my rv and it was a chore. They seem to hold quite a bit of tree fallings and they eventually work their way into the opening and down to the screens. Are they necessary? I drove by the rv dealer today and the new rigs do not have them. Any thoughts?

Love my Max Air II covers on our trailer. While not necessary, they allow you to open your vents in the rain. Also, vents crack with age and if your trailer is sitting for a while in the rain, it can fill up with water and you'll never know it. One of the best mods I ever did.

I highly recommend them...

1. They are inexpensive...and if you don't mind getting on the roof to install them, even cheaper

2. Ability to have vents/fans open in the rain

3. Ability to use the toilet fan in the rain (important!)

4. Extra protection for the relatively flimsy stock vent lids...Was in a bad hailstorm once and was really glad for that extra layer up there. Would have been a wet night otherwise..as it was for others at the campground.

I won't be without vent covers. They allow me to leave my vents open 24/7 when storing the RV for air circulation to prevent mold growth. Personally, I prefer the Aero-Flo brand to the Maxx-Air brand. They are hinged and I can open them to clean out the vents.

I have put cover on the vents in both of the RVs we have owned. My problem was that no matter how tight I cranked them closed, they always seemed to come open on their own while towing.

Even with rain sensor fans I still use FantasticVent covers. IMHO they are the best they actually allow air to move.

I put the on after the sun and hail broke the crank up covers. Put new crank up covers on and the aftermarket vent covers on. Now we leave the crank up covers open year around. So far so good.

The main reason they are not on the rv's at the dealer is so they can sell you covers along with installation and get more money in their pockets. The same idea with slide toppers, dealer installed in most cases.

Vent covers.

To me they are a must have. I leave my vents open in-between trips and I could not do that without them. The newer MaxxAir II and FanMate covers hinge open for easy cleaning.

Put ours on first week we owned tt. Good friend didn't see the point of them until his 3 vent lids on his brand new fw shattered in a hailstorm.

I debated on putting them on mine since mine have rain sensors. A buddy was with his motor home in the Midwest and had his vents open, the wind ripped off one vent. He added vent covers and after he told me I ordered 3 for mopey vents and installed them. Two nights ago we enjoyed a Cascade Mountain thunderstorm, temps about 80, vents open with the fans going, jalosie windows open a bit as well. All was dry inside.

Have always had them and use them. Right now our unit is parked next to the house (where is stays when not in use) and both roof vents are wide open and side windows cracked to allow ventilation. No worry about rain or debris.

I use them and like them, I can leave the vent open during wet weather
and while cooking etc. plus they help keep trash out of the vents. I did make an inside cover for the one in the bedroom so it would stay darker.

You may have heard recently but we get a little bit of rain down here in Texas every now and then.

The vent covers allow us to leave the vents open without getting rain splashed or blown inside.
