I don't know if you have an Arctic Fox dealer close by, but we looked at the Grand Design Reflections before looking at the Arctic Fox we just purchased. Looked at the Glacier Peaks as well. There were some things that caught our eye on the Grand Design but we kept looking with the feeling there were some things they should have done better or included for the price point. Glacier Peaks are filled with lots of features but in the end Arcttic Fox was the best fit with its floor plan for us.

We had a Crossroads Cruiser 27 or 28RL that just fit. I'm sure they still make the model but it may be taller by now.
Edit: Looks like they are now 12' 3". ๐Ÿ˜ž
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

Rather than settle for a 5th wheel under 12' could the door height be increased by reframing door and installing a new door? Especially if you have found the RV that you really like. Just a thought.

.

No matter which you find, make sure to include/check the height WITH an A/C !! -
And with a SECOND A/C if you plan on having one!!

That may -or may NOT- be included in the height specs..:(

*Don't* rely on what someone (brochure or salesperson) tells you!
Measure it/one yourself!

The (first) A/C unit will increase the height.
A second A/C (over the bedroom) will increase the overall to approx 13'6".

Door "modification" may be the best option...;)

Thanks to all for suggestions. I have a 12x12 door with 12,1" clearance and 14 ft side walls and a ramped entrance. I no the header can be raised if necessary. but would like to avoid it especially if we can find one we are happy with that will clear. Really looking for manufacturers for comparison to Grand design at this point.

We had the same issue. We bought the rig in my signature. As noted, be sure to include the A/C in your calculations. Ours just fits our 12 ft door.

Be sure to also check and measure the height of the bottom of the garage door when open. I had to make sure I had my opener cranked to open as far as it would go.

We love our unit. I don't even think about it not as I go through the door.

good points here...hooked up height and if you have a front AC installed. On my unit the optional front AC was not included in the standard height.

I would assume there are some fivers that will fit under your door but it seems the builders have been continually raising them to keep up with the higher riding trucks we use to pull them. We have a 13' high door on our garage that was great for our 12' 6" high motorhome we used to own but the Excel wouldn't fit without removing a trim board and changing the bedroom air to a lower profile model. If you can modify your garage I would do a minimum of 14' and hope the ride height war with the trucks ends soon.

I'd also look to change the door size if at all possibly. Having just changed 5ers, in the beginning we opened up the possibilities from. TT to staying with a 5er. Like many I believe one important thing is floor plan so you are happy long term. If the door could be changed then why limit yourself. Good Luck!

That increase in height all depends on the header and how much room if any you havwe abiove it now.

I had none, so now i have two channels cut in the concrete for the wheels to fit in. The channels slope back up to the regular floor once the roof air clears the header. :R Pole barn so I can live with it.

I agree with this. I did this very thing on my own shop door. All in all cost me about $1400. I went from a 12' high by 10 wide to a 14 foot high to a 12 foot wide. The extra width is very nice also.

Be sure you check the height hooked up to your truck. Most height specs are with the trailer level. All the new trucks are taller than the old ones and the trailer sits a little nose high. Also be sure that your approach to the dooe is level and not sloped up as that will also affect your height.

You should be able to find a number of mid-height FWs, that are less than 12' tall. Be sure to measure the door opening, as a 12' door, may have an opening of only 11'8"- 11'10".
