2014 Dodge Ram Fifth Wheel Prep Option?

Has anyone ordered a 2014 Ram with the 5th wheel prep option? If so, what did you need to do to install your hitch? Do any hitches actually just line up with the pre-drilled holes? Dealer is having a difficult time answering questions on the subject.

OK traced that picture. Here is a little more detail.

You need Curt Head
20K > CURT Fifth Wheel Hitch Head #16530

or

24K > CURT Fifth Wheel Hitch Head #16545

and leg kit #16021 that is pictured above to fit directly into the RAM's 4 bed pockets.

**Note: This leg kit will be available early to mid March and he said it was actually a Reese design deal.**

I stand corrected....kinda lol.....its not a reese but its the first I have seen like that. However, this would be a good thing for someone who does not currently own a hitch or is looking to upgrade, But I spend a lot of money when I bought my camper and had my reese pro slider installed, even though I don't need a slider now with ym long bed, there is nothing wrong with my hitch and I don't have money falling out of my pockets to just go buy another hitch. The adapter worked great.......wonder whats the cost on the new hitch that does not need the adaptor?

There will be a similar drop-in model from B&W that will go right on to the factory pucks.

Reese is offering their #30154 picture frame which you bolt their conventional hitches to - nothing from them on a hitch to go straight to the factory pucks.

I'm trying to keep up on all of the offerings from the different manufacturers at the http://www.ramgunner.com/ram5thwheel.htm page. It will be a living document as we get info from other manufacturers.

This is some great info-thanks!

..OK, I KNEW there was someone doing it, but also would have sworn, that though they did make a picture frame adapter, that Reese was also going to make a hitch just like the picture of the Curt, just in the Reese brand....if not Reese, pretty sure there is yet another major manufacturer doing the same thing Curt is doing....

I like it, it looks great

Deerslayer may be right, but I thought I had seen several Reese "prototype" conventional 5th wheel hitches with wide legs on them that will fit into the 4 cam lock holes that the picture frame adapter drops into, but maybe I'm wrong.....I know that I saw where someone (yeah, very vague I know), that had pictures of this type hitch, legs came down even like on a normal 5er hitch, then spead out...kind of strange looking, but the hitch was designed to drop into the 4 outside cam lock holes that the 5erGN prep package offers.

As stated earlier, the picture frame adapter either made by Mopar or Reese (cheaper cost), fit's into the 4 outside cam lock holes, THEN you put your 5th wheel hitch onto the picture frame adapter and locks it into place..There are quite a few "conventional" 5th wheel hitches that will work with this adapter...I wouldn't buy it OR a hitch from Mopar, their prices are ridiculous. One could save $200 easily by purchasing picture frame adapter from Reese....If one doesn't have a 5er hitch yet, go to a reputable hitch/installer. Heck, you could probably get a hitch cheaper at Camping World than Mopar/Chrysler

Just curious what hitch did they not have? I found my dealer and dodge themselves were useless when trying to figure out the hitch in my truck. Once I did some leg work on what was working in the real world I got the reese adapter and my reese hitch dropped right in. I am not sure how the goose neck works as I don't have one, but to my knowledge it should drop right in

We ordered our truck July 13th, 2013 with a Reese Hitch. We were notified 8 weeks later, they could not get a Reese Hitch. We called Reese and they told us that their hitch for the 2014 Rams would not be available til early 2014

I certainly wouldn't purchase a hitch from Dodge or Mopar, their prices are ridiculous..you would get it cheaper at Camping World...best place to go is a hitch installer....Almost ANY conventional hitch that sets on rails will work with the picture frame adapter....

The price from Dodge for the Mopar Curt Hitch was the same as the Reese. Do keep in mind that as part of our deal with them, they were going to purchase and install our hitch among other things

Originally they quoted a price of $500.00 just for the adapter, but then after checking with the parts dept. who in turn called dodge ect. they tried to hit me with a bunch more money, as I had already worked it into the deal that the dealership was buying the bracket, I made some extra calls and spoke with reese themselves, who assured me there bracket would work in my truck and with my existing hitch I ordered through my camper dealer/hitch installer, had it in two days and installed it in the parking lot:W

While Reese didn't have the hitch for our 2014, they did have the picture frame. That was sent to our dealer and was installed by them when our truck arrived. Hugs, Di

So it sounds like Reese will soon have a hitch that mounts directly into the 4 factory prep holes, thereby not having to go with the picture frame adapter?

Does anyone know if a pullrite superglide or other auto slider will fit on the picture frame? I would assume they would fit fine?

I could be wrong but I don't think reese is developing a hitch to drop into the holes, they spent the money on R&D and manufacturing the adapter, basically the prep package and adapter take the place of the rails you would normally install for your fifth wheel

Yes, the pullrite for Industry Standard Rails will fit on the Reese picture frame, I have one now. However, I ordered the Anderson GN setup that just arrived from etrailer today. Will have it hooked up to my 5th wheel this weekend.
