I had an 11 F350 SRW with 3.73's. Was a great truck. Recently upgraded our camper to a 42' toy hauler. As a result, traded trucks for an 11 F450 with 4.30's. Having never owned a DRW, I was shocked how much better the f450 handles a trailer. Love the 4.30's except for when I look at the avg miles per gallon...yikes.
The newer 350-3500's would have done the same thing as the 450.
I just wish people would read what you said about being shocked at how much better it is to tow long and heavy with a dually.

Hi Rynosback...
Totally agree, 350/3500, diesel, air blower, engine brake is the ultimate TV if you need that much muscle and have unlimited funds...but not everyone wants to tow a 45ft, tri-axle 18,000lbs toy hauler.
As you pointed out horse was out of the barn and water is just fine

QUESTION:
We have two rear end ratio options
I) 3.73 ratio; 5th wheel towing capacity of 12,500 lbs
II)4.30 ratio; 5th wheel towing capacity of 15,300 lbs
Would anyone have any practical experience which would help comparing the performance of these two ratio options?

Look at the towing specs to see what configuration you need to haul the trailer you want and it will tell you the ratio you need. Dont depend on personal opinions. Its your truck, get the facts.

Order the one ton - "no brainer" no matter what brand the truck is.
Search and ask your rear end ratio question on one of the Ford Diesel forums!
Broader range of info.

Gotta go with a lot of other folks. Get the F350 Diesel and go with the 3:73 rear. I have been towing a 40ft'r since early 2007 (yea I know I got one of the very early 2008 models) and it has been great. You will pay a little more but in the long run it will pay off. Take it from some one who knows. And yes -- you can go with the SRW -- it does a great job as well.
Enjoy the road. We do.
