I have my new FW and was wondering when parked over night say in a Walmart lot with no power source do you leave the FW plugged into the truck and does it draw off the truck battery?

Every Ram (Dodge) I've owned since 1996 does. They do not use a battery isolation relay in stock configuration.

Agreed Ford factory wired do not because of relay.

I wish mine did. We had to move out and away from the driveway and I left it hooked up for about 3 weeks, and when I went to move it back, guess what? Dead battery in my truck.

Any time you're stopped more than 1-2 days, you should unplug from the truck. Even with a battery disconnect on your trailer, you should still unplug.

Old Biscuit, on the newer Fords, the top (indent) is at the 3 o'clock position. So yes, you are correct, if the plug was installed like picture, the battery/charge would be at one o'clock.

The Fords have the 4-pin, and 7-pin, side by side, their reason for doing this. I actually like being plugged in with the door on the right, rather than the top.

OK.....

Orientation makes a difference.

Normally reference to pin positions is made relative to the plug keyway that's at the 12 o'clock position by definition irrespective of receptacle orientation.

Flip open 7 pin receptacle cover on truck and test for 12V at 1 O'clock blade.

Truck key off.........no 12V------no drain on battery

Even if there is 12V power with truck key off........overnight stop should NOT drain truck battery unless trailer battery is really low/bad

Boondocking-----YES unplug

I went and checked and mine is the 10 and 5 o'clock pins and there is no power when off. THANKS Everybody

That sure isn't trailer/rv standard truck receptacle wiring
10 (11)....S/B tail/running lights & 5 S/B .....brake controller output

Did you have to rewire your trailer cord plug to match truck receptacle?

It is a factory plug and it is turned 90 degrees

Most factory wired Ford connectors are powered through a relay that disconnects when the engine is hut off. No need to unplug!
