AC problem

My AC was working fine,I turned it off for about 30 mins and now the compressor won't come on.I had a RV repair guy out and he went on the roof and said it was making a clicking sound that he has never heard before,He wants to replace it( Duo-Therm) with a Coleman for 1300.00 Does that sound like a fair price? We can't put it in the shop,it will have to be done onsite.

check the 120 connection first I had one doing that it was a bad connection

If you have to replace it Camping World are selling those for $660 and $130 to install it.

There should be two capacitors. One for the fan and one for the compressor.
Remove the shroud, locate the wiring junction box, with power off remove the cover.
The bad capacitor could be swollen, or shows signs of burnt wires.
Most HVAC shops should have replacement. Does not have to be an RV shop.

Yes,the fan turns on.

I agree with trying a starting capacitor. I would most definitely try that before I would replace the whole unit.

I would replace start capacitor before replacing an A/C unit just because RV guy hasn't heard one click before :S
