Aluminum vs Fiberglass siding

Looking at used toy haulers and I have my eye on one that has smooth siding and there is some delamination in the nose. What is it that makes the smooth siding worth more, especially if it is prone to delaminating?

Thanks for everyone's input. I think I have decided on the one we are buying and it is new, not used. It is a 2013 front bath Forest River Stealth 23ft and just happens to have smooth siding. I could not pass it up for the price, $14k off retail.

I will never buy another aluminum sided trailer again as the only real benefit I can see are a slight weight savings. All other advantates go to Fiberglass IMO.

-Better insulated from cold/heat
-Better insulation from sound
-Less places for water intrusion
-More aerodynamic
-Easier to clean/wax
-Doesn't look like it came from a 1980s trailer partk...LOL

Should mention that most aluminum sides are made with wood framing while fiberglass uses aluminum studs. Both have advantages & disadvantages.

The smooth siding generally are more expensive to build than the Alum. sided...... Other than that it is mostly a looks thing...... I have Alum & very happy with it.....

Filon sidded trailers are not PRONE to delamination though it does sometimes happen. It's pretty rare and usually has a cause. Both types of siding have their advantages and disadvantages. Filon siding is very tough to damage (hail, tree branches etc) where as aluminum siding dents easily and a good hail storm will "do a number on it". Aluminum is lighter weight but creates more complex wind currents while towing. MOSTLY it's a cosmetic issue as most other things are pretty much "one from column a and one from column B)
