any info on highway 20 to Ft. Bragg, CA?

Hello all,
Don't know if this is the proper place for this topic but here goes.
We are heading out for the week end Friday morning to a camp ground on the beach just North of Ft. Bragg, CA. We will be travelling on 20 from Lakeport CA. Being a new resident here I have never been further west on 20 than the 101. Anybody have experience on 20 West of the 101 from Willits to Ft. Bragg? From the looks of Google Earth it doesn't look that great. Wife and dog have a tendency to get car sick.

Just returned from our trip to Ft. Bragg area, actually Westport. Highway 20 proved to be a very decent route. Wife did pretty good coming home. Not so good going but not as bad as I expected. If you haven't tried Westport Beach campground it is worth the trip. Friendly folks run it and the beach is great. No tv however.

Hey, tell her how much better this route is than going South down the coast on 1 North of Jenner by the Sea. I spent a year and a half at the USCG LORAN at Point Arena in the late 60's! My 1967 SS 350 Camero was fun! If I never put that over a cliff the way I drove, anyone can keep a truck and trailer on the road!

Note to others, always do this section of the coast North bound if you want a happy marriage. Chris

Take your time and don't let the traffic behind you make you go faster than you need to. Lots of places to pull over. And do so. Get out for ten minutes and enjoy the smells. I have pulled that route many times with our 40 footer and toad. The route North of Ft Bragg is tight as well so take your time on that 17 mile stretch. The trip is worth the drive. You will like the campground.

If you pull on Bottlerock Rd. 20 is a piece of cake. I worked at the Bottlerock Power Plant back in the 80's. Everyday from Clear Lake Riviera for four years.

"nervous rider" Don't even think about taking Hopland grade to 101!
Going over to the coast is not much worse than any road leading out of Lake county.I hope she can get used to those roads.

Wife is always nervous when pulling in the mountains. Instead of just sitting back and relaxing she stiffens up on every curve or narrow area, even highway exits. I have never had an issue driving anywhere but she is just a nervous rider and can't seem to get over it.

Have driven it a few times with trailer in tow. Just take your time and be patient. There are a few turnouts along the way to let traffic by. Make a stop or two and get out of the truck if feeling sick

We have made that trip several times both with and without our 35' HH .If you are comfortable with the roads between Cobb and Lakeport and between Cobb and Middletown,there won't be a problem with 20 from Willits to the coast.
What CG are you going to?

(We lived in Kelseyville 25 years,traveled most of the roads in Lake county,and many routes to surrounding areas.)

Its a good road but very winding, there are plenty of pull outs to let faster traffic pass. I might add that it is a very scenic route as well.

With your 32' fiver it is "doable" but will not be fun. The switchbacks are very tight and most of the road is narrow with little or no shoulder. Pullouts are infrequent and very short. The road is gorgeous but if your passengers get queasy bring barf bags.
