Anyone towing a Elite / Mobile Suites with a 1 ton

We are getting very close to buying a 2016 DRV Elite Suites. The model is the 38 RSSA with a dry weight of 16,300 and a GVWR of 19,000.

It is pretty close to what I am towing now but I understand that DRV's tend to have some heavy pin weight.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

GVWR HAS been the same since, at least 2012-2013, maybe back to 2010. ...GCWR's can be different depending on gearing.

What "normally" caused "LESS PAYLOAD" with the Mega Cab was because it is normally heavier than a CrewCab, thus same GVWR, but less payload rating due to truck being heavier, comparing like trim level trucks

I was not sure if he meant 3500SRW as a base model, I was more thinking he thought there were several weight ratings for the dually's. I clarified that all 3500 Dually's have 9,750# rear axle rating not just some. Now that I say that I don't remember if the MegaCab Dually has the same rating??? Seems like the newer ones do.


The 2013 and up Megacab dually has the same weight ratings (axles and GVWR) as the long box crew cab dually. Prior Mega dually trucks were rated considerably lower for some reason which is one of the reasons I went with the 2013. I'm quite happy with my choice. :B

Although my "Max" trailer weight with the 3.42:1 gears is 17,000 I assure you it has zero issues towing 20,000# behind the truck. Hills,mountains,back roads or anything. Will more heat build up in the 3.42's? Sure it will but if you don't tow 500 miles straight in the mountains they hold up just fine. I like the high gears because when not towing I can bust down some crazy fuel mileage.


65K towing with 68RFE and 3.42's ZERO issues, thats towing a combined 29K. Only negative was starting on a grade you had to ease into it til you got rolling. That said the Aisin and 3.42's are far superior getting the load rolling. Add the 4.10' and it's nite and day difference.

Not only is OPs truck a 2008 SRW he also has an aux fuel tank mounted in bed of truck.

Personally would not worry about it but the F450 only has a 9,100# RAWR.

I pull a 16500 gvw with a f350 srw which is max for that truck. Any thing heavier needs a F350 DRW min and I would go for the F450 because it is built to be a DRW because its frame, brakes, and axels. However, the 2017 F350/450 have aluminum bodies, more powerful engines and stronger frames with larger brakes.

I have a 41' Elite, Dry 17, GVW 21. Pull with a Duramax Dually. Have NO problems. Before that, had a 38' Newmar Dually, GVW 20. Pulled that well over 200K miles with Duramax Duallys (and that one Dodge). NO problems.

I would never consider a SRW.
Yep, actually drove to all of these places---in the last eight years. Missed Rhode Island and New Jersey.
