coiled breakaway cable for 5th wheel

Has anyone used the coiled breakaway cable? Our regular cable has gotten stuck under the hitch rail at least 2 times. Its a bugger to get out when you are traveling and it gets damaged. We are going out today to look for the coiled cable.
Need your expertise on this product.

thanks to everyone for the quick replies. We were at a small rv dealer close to home today, they had the kit, and will order just the cable for us, that way we can use the pins we have, just attach with a key ring. We may upgrade later to the new switch in the fall. But its always good to have a spare. Ya jut never know..!LOL.

ps: all the local dealers had the Fastway breakaway cable kits, just not the cable and pin. I checked the US prices, you guys are a bit cheaper, but not by much.

It doesn't take hardly anything to pull the pin out of the E-brake switch. So I figure if the hitch head ever breaks away from the truck, the hitch head itself is more than enough to pull the pin. I see no reason to change my practice.

This is quite different than the receiver hitch on a pull-along trailer.

Yeah, a few seconds thought AFTER posting lead me to the same conclusion :S

But, really...

If the king pin and/or broken hitch exit the bed far enough to pull the break-away, hits the road and the whole thing goes a$$ over tea-kettle, how much help are the brakes going to be?

I hang mine on the hitch handle and have never given it much thought until now.
I can see why I wouldn't want to do this. It kind of defeats the purpose if the hitch breaks loose.

I just put an eyebolt in a hole in the hitch and have a snap hook on the cable. Easy to hook up and unhook.

As shown, except that is the old cable. I use the same hook which I moved to the new coiled cable.

I replaced mine with a coiled cable. Didn't need to change the pin in the switch. It came with a loop that fit the hole in the pin. Good upgrade, no downside that I can see.

Don't recall where I bought it, but probably just off the shelf at CW.

I've been looking at one at a dealer here in Colorado. I've also had troubles with cable getting under hitch, however; I now have a B&W puck hitch, and I don't think it will get under. Just haven't figured out where to connect to the B&W hitch yet. I may try the coiled connector.

I would to like to know here to get those coiled brake away cables. Seems like i am always buying either the cables or the baggage compartment clips when i go into the RV store. On another note here do you guys connect your brake away cables to in the truck bed. I know you are not supposed to connect them to the hitch. Would like to know what other guys are doing. I have the reese slider 16k.

Are all breakaway pins the same? Can I order any coil with a pin attached and expect it to work with my current switch?

The coiled cable is all the dealer had, close to where I was camping when I found the original damaged. I was skeptical, have appreciated how it stays out of the way. Thankfully, haven't needed to 'test' it!
