DRV Memphis

I'm starting to do some research on the DRV Memphis and I'm having troubles finding the specs (empty weights) on this unit. Does anybody know what they are and does anybody on this forum have one? I'd like to talk with someone that currently has one.

I've got full air ride so the truck won't squat at all. I'm running almost 4000 lb pin now.

I had a 43' Voltage toy hauler then bought the MS Atlanta. I have not weighed mine but, I can tell you it has at least 1000 lbs more pin weight and, pulls noticeably heavier.
I estimate pin weight over 4000 lbs, and, loaded weight 21000+.

With that said, the Air Ride hitch and axles along with the braking system make it much more pleasurable to pull than the last rig.

I am sure the F350 will handle it ok, but it is going to squat down pretty good. The Ram goes down 3-3.5" and it has much heavier rear springs than Ford.

I think that you need to look at the GCWR for the truck and trailer. If you weigh your truck and subtract that from the GCWR you will know the max weight of the trailer you can pull.

The max tow rating is for a base model truck, a 150 driver, no hitch, no cargo, no options....Real world tow weight is probably closer to 20,000#.

And them you need to make sure the pin weight does not over load the GVWR and GAWR of the truck.

Well........

I guess I need to correct myself. On the web I found a website that said my truck was good for 23,700. HOWEVER in looking at the brochure for my truck I see that it says 21,500. mmmmmm I guess I better look at this a little closer and get actual weights.

Might have to look at the new F450

My 2012 F350 is rated for a max trailer weight of 23,700 so it should be okay. I will have to change out my B&W hitch that's only rated for 18K. My suspension is all Kelderman front and rear.

Well I got a hold of a dealer and found out that the Memphis has an empty weight around 19K. That was good news because I can handle that. Now we're looking at the DRV Atlanta instead of the Memphis so we can turn the bunk room into a office/spare bedroom for grand kids.

Weather permitting, we'll tour the factory very soon. It sure is hard to give up the Redwood because it's been a GREAT trailer. We want something with a better office setup without giving up kitchen space.

It's hard to set facts and figures on the DRV because of the way they build them. If you order one from the factory you basically "build" your unit to YOUR specs. All of your options that you decide to add or delete determine what the finished unit will weigh. I would think the length, width and height would stay the same and the same but not the weight.

I called DRV when they started to build ours because I was concerned I didn't have a proper weight rated hitch. They gave me a "ball park" figure but they said it was just an estimate and that it probably would be heavier depending on our options. As it turns out it was heavier than they first told me but at least I had an idea of where it was going.

I hope this helps. I'd urge you to call DRV in person and have them explain the whole thing to you, you'd have a better understanding.

All DRV needed to do was show the Dry Weight and the Net Carrying capacity, then I could have just added the two and optained the GVWR. They chose to keep everything secret. Maybe just to get you to contact them so that they could get your contact information. My preference is to do all of the leg work at my leisure. I won't do business with the way DRV wants it.

Cop out on DRV's part, if you ask me, and they're =far= from alone on this. I'm no coder, but =I= can easily logic out a program that would give you estimated weights on a "build your own" basis. The "brute force and ignorance" method would be to simply take a sample of each model and weigh the damn thing at several stages of construction so they know that it weighs X, but weighs Y when you add a larger fridge, weighs Z when you add washer/dryer and a xxxx watt generator adds another ABC lbs, etc., etc. Could even hoist the pin on a forklift with a scale at each stage to see how =that= changes, too. Again, the engineers have all these numbers in their databases and they know what the moment arms are fore and aft and left and right, so it really shouldn't be hard for a coder to come up with a program to calc all this and put the results into a template to show us. Any bets on whether any of the total-custom RV builders do this on a total custom build?

Shipping weight will vary dramatically with selected options - a generator and a washer/dryer pair or a larger inverter and additional battery bank, for instance. You could check out similar units at a dealer such as RVs for Less and ask what the shipping weight for that particular unit is on the Manufacturer's Certificate of Origin.

Alternately, ask an owner at the SOITC (Suite Owners' International Travel Club) forum.
