DRW vs. SRW for towing fivers

Has anyone towed fivers with both DRW and SRW pickups? I currently have a F350 diesel DRW, and I'm looking to get a new F350 but I'm debating on the rear wheel config. Ease of parking and maneuvering over stability.

When it comes to rocket science or common sense I feel common sense will win on this debate.

I am glad I have a SRW. We tow a 40ft'er and it does a great job. When we unhook and go places it sure is nice to be able to go anywhere in a town, city or where ever and not worry to much about parking or getting in and out of places.
Our F350 SRW is a 1-ton. A F350 Dually is a 1-ton. Really not rocket science.

Enjoy rv'ing. We do.

Funny, I have the 1 ton dually and go everywhere we want to go once we drop the 5er...I even go though drive through windows at the bank and at fast food places, (guess it's what you get use to driving). I've NEVER not been able to go wherever we want to go...May park a little farther out, but it protects my great looking truck from getting dinged up and the exercise sure doesn't hurt.....only difference is the wider hips, BUT a lot more payload.

Didn't quite get your drift of "really not rocket science"????? a 1 ton SRW versus a 1 ton DRW truck...you're right, it's not rocket science. The 1 ton DUALLY allows for more payload and for more GCWR.....do the research, so simple a caveman could do it, so you're right, not rocket science, but the dually will handle more 5er than a 1 ton SRW truck, just look at the specs.

Per the OP, wanted to know if some had towed the SAME 5er with BOTH trucks....I have, the dually offers a little more stability when towing on mountainous, curvy roads, I know that as fact from "MY" experience...Have you towed the same 5er with both SRW and DRW truck?

Yes there is a big difference between your truck and a dually. Until you tow with one you won't understand and will keep saying yours is fine.

40' behind you is a lot of mass that is where a Dually comes into play in big winds and panic situations.

But if parking connivence is more important than safety I don't think what I say is going to matter or what anyone else says.

The simple answer is you need to know the pin weight of your trailer and then pick a truck with ample GVWR and GAWR to carry the pin weight within manufacturers ratings. I personally like the stability of the dually, even if I can get by with a SRW.

Sitting around the campfire with a group of people brings to mind 3 topics you never want to participate in. Religion, politics and dually verses SRW LOL.

I would suggest you do the math and figure out what would be best suited for your specific needs and possible future RV plans. IMHO - If a dually seems like the best choice, I would not let the width of the truck scare you off unless you live in a cramped downtown location. Our daily driver is a crew dually and we use it for everything. Parking is no big deal and we rarely used drive throughs when we had a car. I think the dually fears are mostly in peoples heads if they have never owned one. If you are skilled enough to drive an RV you certainly won't have a problem with a dually. Get what you want as long as you're within weight limits.

You know, you're not that far from me, I'm "Just outside" the city limits of Asheville NC, and do almost all my towing in the mountains of NC, SC, TN, VA and WV...and again, having towed the same 5er with both a SRW and DRW truck, IF you're going to be towing on some of these mountainous curvy roads we live and tow on, I believe you'll feel better about your towing experience with the dually, unless you are towing a not too long and not too heavy 5er...
If you're not towing heavy, go with the SRW truck...your call, your money...My dually is my daily driver and I love driving this truck..towing what I'm towing, where I tow.....only a dually for me now.

No one has stated that a 1 ton SRW ISN'T stable...if that were the case, neither is a 3/4 or 1/2 ton, and that's stupid to even suggest. what is being said is that a 1 ton dually may very well offer a "MORE stable" towing experience than the SRW, which does just fine unless it's overloaded....then, you're on your own.
