four season porch sliding door for toy hauler

I am looking to frame out the back of my toy hauler and put a 4 season house sliding door there. I was going to use treated wood with sill seal aginst the frame and use self taping screws to mount the frame to the RV. I would use plywood with waterproof paint and the inside use drywall with instalation between the studs so I can keep the back ramp down as a deck year round and still keep the heat in the winter and let in maximum amount of sun light.

Has anybody done this or heard of anybody doing this?

I know they make 3 season doors for RV but they are a bit more expensive and not 4 season.

The price point for this project is projected between $450-$500.

I have a 2013 Heartland Cyclone 3950

My sliding door had lost it's air tight seal. I recently repaired it with the help of ***Link Removed***. Does anyone here know which door material has the resistance against condensation?

Kyle, Check out the Thunderbolt XLR 385amp. We just purchased this model and it has French doors in the back. You'll have to check somewhere other than the forest river website as they have discontinued this model but there are still a few floating around.

I'll be interested to see the finished product. We have the 3 season sliding doors on our rig and made them more insulating by adding black fabric panels velcroed to each door to provide more privacy and a little more insulation than the plastic film panels alone. We are full-timers, but rarely leave the patio deployed at every stop. I had thought of having some plexiglass panel inserts cut to give a little more R value, but we are rarely in real cold or real hot weather, so it hasn't been a big issue. Good luck and keep us in the loop on your progress!

Those doors are Lippert 3 season doors, have them on my Jayco Sesimic 4212. They have removable inserts over the screens. Works really well

I saw this at an RV show a few months ago, don't remember what brand it was. There were not drop down beds in the garage so these doors hinged at the top and fastened to the bottom of the overhead loft. I think they were plastic sliders with the two end pieces being fixed glass. If memory is correct I'm sure the OP could find out who makes this assembly and adapt it, doubt the coach builder makes it themselves.

If you have a FR Sandpiper or Sierra dealer near you go look at the 360 PDEK. We have one and love it. It has a residential sliding glass door with a rear deck.

Our glass door is mounted 8" back from the rear so when the gate is closed the folded handails don't hit the glass door.

Our door looks like a standard 6068 slider. I'm thinking about upgrading ours as it's only single pane glass.

Google luck.

I'm not sure the interior side of the ramp was designed to be left exposed to the elements for extended periods. You may need to look into sealing the "deck" so you do not get water intrusion or UV deterioration.

That is a something to think about as well with the french doors. and it would give me more room to put things into the toy hauler.

I would be concerned with the sliding door opening because I would lock it and put a stick at the bottom to prevent it from opening.

Any concerns about using 'residential' glass if that is what you are using?

At the back of the hauler there should be a metal frame around the door, that should provide a fairly "movement free" zone. I would actually encourage the French door idea with a sliding/retractable screen door setup. The slider and all that glass bouncing around would worry me and you have almost the same problems with movement and settling. Also, if it was ever left unlocked during travel, the slider would slam side to side, likely with enough force to break things.

Good luck either way!

The project would add a couple of hundred pounds to the weight of the RV which I am not to concerned about. I do want to paint my Cabinets a light grey with white and grey exotic granite and install a full size gas range and convert it to propane but that project got veto from the wife. So the only project I have been able to do is put laminate flooring in the bedroom and but a back splash behind the oven.

Next project is to make a sliding pantry next to the fridge for the pots and pans and can goods.

I was going to make it go as close to the ramp as possible.

At the moment I do not have any toys we sold our 4 wheelers we are looking at full timing it again in it and I put carpet down in the toy hauler and we use it as the kids toy area/second living room. I just thought it would be cool to always have the porch as a porch and get a lot more sunlight in the back since it is minimum.

i do have a motor cycle which would fit through the sliding door I would just build a ramp to get over the track or if I get 4 wheelers again I would take the doors on the track to put them in.

I was thinking of doing French Doors but that is more costly and I would be concerned with movement and settling that they might not close properly.
