Goodyear G614 tires

In my reviews of these forums the last few weeks, I've read about a bunch of Goodyear G614 failures but no Sailun S637 failures.

I can't see spending $500 extra to get Goodyear tires with a history of blowouts in order to replace tires on my camper that also have a history of blowouts (Power King Tow Max).

Were the Goodyear failures on older models and are they improved now?

I believe we only know about three load range G 16" steel ply carcass LT tires. The GY G614, The Sailun S 637 and the GeoStar G574. What is the problem with talking about more than one of them in the same thread. They are the only game(s) in town so to speak for a LRG 16" LT tire. Chris

Guess I should have linked directly to the thread, as I can not now weed through all the many tire problem post and find it again. I do not have a logon on their site to do a search. Maybe one of their members can search and find it. Sorry, I look twice!

Other than some not knowing how to spell "Sailun", and some a little over weight and some with quite a few miles on the tires, it appears they are doing well....didn't see anything that would cause alarm with these tires...It appears they've been around a little longer than what I thought they had been and again, with the Quality processes they have in place, believe it's going to be a good tire....Guess another year or so of reviews by people who are using them AND maybe the main test would be that "IF" one of their tires failed, (I say "IF"), and it's found to be a flaw in the manufacturing process, what will Sailun do to "make it right".....Guess we'll we just "wait and see".....:)

Agree. I've really not heard or read anything bad about them...Give it another year or so and if they're reputation stands up, they will without a doubt, be a viable option....

Yeah Chris, I read a few things that I figured some really didn't know what they were talking about...Saw one on the Sailun tires, appears some odd tire wear, but sounds like might have been contributed to under inflation....

As you stated, it'll be a couple years before I plan on buying again, and we'll have more history on more than several more tires in the "G" range I can keep up with..

thanks for the info.

Jim

The under inflation post is the one I can now find also. Can not find the other one! DRATS!

NC, found something interesting on the Heartland web site that Fasteagle pointed me to in another thread. People there are reporting the inter and outer ribs of the Sailun tires wear much faster than the center even at full inflation.

Here is his clickie
Down the page is a forum "External Components - For all Heartland brands" within that is "Tires and Wheels (For RV's)"

Chris

Thanks for the link Chris, I'll check it out.

Jim as I noted in another post, I should have linked right to it, as I can not find it again amongst all of the TowMax complaints. I may have wondered off onto one of the similar post linked at the bottom of each thread. The gent said he had outside rib wear like others had reported.

By the time you need new tires there should be more history available.

Someone that is a member there and can search most likely could find it. I thought about signing up to to clarify to those that think Michelin owns Bridgestone and other misconceptions that are posted on their pages. Someone posted that the poly carcass Bridgestone Duravis M700 HD was built the same as the steel carcass XPS rib. The two Duravis that are steel ply carcasses are the R250 and M895. Both the Duravis R500 RD and the M700 HD are great tires, they are however not steel ply cascass tires, and are great pickup tires where ride quality is an issue with the more flexible poly ply carcass.

Chris

There has also been a few reports of outside tire wear on the G614 on the Montana Forum, this is nothing new, could be alignment ,bent axles ,a lot of things . Of course many reply back with no wear problems, I am one of them on that forum. Lots of bad mouthing by especially one guy over there about the G614's, and that is about all it takes on these forum's to discredit a tire.

I need to replace my stock Duro's "E" rated next year. Tread & sidewalls are still very good but they're hitting close to 6 yrs old and I almost always have to add 10-15lbs of air everytime we want to go camping. I have a big trip planned next year and I want tires to be the least of my worries. I did some research months ago and concluded on going with G614 but dreading the cost. That is until I hit this thread. Wow, lots of great info in here! I have 7000lb axles but I also don't load up to capacity or even near my weight capacity limit. I'm not a full-timer or anything remotely close; long time before I can retire. So, I was debating if "G" rated were more about handling max capacity, peace of mind, combination of both or something else I'm missing? I also want (like to have) tires that are rated above 65mph just for that extra margin of safety. I hope the positive Sailun reviews continue.

10-15 psi loss is strong indication of 1. Tire puncture or 2. Leaking valve or 3 leak at tire wheel interface.
I don't want to dissuade you from having new tires but if you have a problem (air loss) it is always a good idea to learn the cause or you may not be really addressing the cause of the sir loss.
