To who ever posted about making a storm door from the screen door thank you. It took me 30 minutes to install and the Lexan was on sale @ Lowes for $28. I used double faced tape to hang the Lexan. Franklin NC looks like 41 degrees tonight. Thanks again.

With a storm door in Florida you can leave the outside door open and still cool the inside. The open door lets more light in and may not make you feel as cramped.

I did our door in 3 pieces. One top piece.....one middle piece and a bottom. Used velcro tape to hold in place(nothing has fallen down yet). The bottom piece I can totally remove or with a few pieces of velco added in a few spot....I can remove the bottom pieces and move it up a few inches for a little air. It worked great on the coast this summer.

I just put the lexan over the screen, as there was a nice ledge for it to fit in. This way, if we want to, we can just slide the lexan out and still have the screen door.

One more very important thing! We were standing near the door while spraying insect repellant (OFF), and they overspray hit the lexan and ruined the surface finish. I don't know whether it will damage plexiglass, but it sure ruined lexan!!

The Lexan slips in a slot and is held in with clips that rotate
90*--just like a storm window on a stick/brick house. The screen stays in place--the Lexan is removable.

Here are pictures of what we did. The added door handle is another great idea. You can also see the screen latch we added (half of a window sash latch) to keep the dogs from opening the screen. The latch can be reached from outside.

My screen door has slots / grooves beside the screen. They are just the right size to slip the lexan / Plexiglass into. I just cut mone on the band saw, and sort of warped it a little and it slipped right in. Easy to remove as well, since there is no hardware holding it in.

When We did our door, I drove the rig to the glass shop, so they could cut the upper curve to fit the door. Was just going to get the pieces and put them on ourselves. The shop tech remeasured everything himself, then asked how I planned to mount then and did I have the pieces. He came back out with the fitted pieces, and before I could say anything, had everything mounted and finished. Charged me for the lexan and cutting it. Said he just wanted to make sure I didn't damage the Lexan while I installed it. Said I didn't have any business up on a ladder.
