HELP!!!

We have a 2003 Alpenlite 5th wheel. Our old fresh water pump quit working so my husband installed a new one. Now even though we don't keep fresh water in the tank (we are on city water) the tank keeps filling up by itself if the valve is shut. Then it floods our front storage area. If we leave the valve open then we have a small steady stream going onto the ground under our rig.
Does anybody know where the winterizing valve is? Or have any idea what is going on?????
Thanks in advance.

Thank you all and special thanks to Traveler II. Bought a check valve at our local Ace Hardware and installed it directly on the hose. No leaks! YAY!

Its a brand new pump! And it was installed exactly like the one we took out. So not backwards. The water flow that is leaking is not a hard flow, just a small one. I contacted Shurflo and they sent me a diagram of where the check valve is in the pump so we will go from there. Thanks!

The flow is a trickle because the water has to get past the diaphragms in the pump. Trust the folks here, most likely a bad or missing check valve.

We had the same problem and Shurflo sent me a new check valve. Easy to put in, but a bit of a problem getting to the pump. I must have not put it back in right because it did the same thing. A fellow RVer suggested I put a check valve directly into the water line. Picked up one at Lowe's installed it. That was two years ago have not had a problem since.

They both feed the same lines from different sources. The pump has to have a check valve to prevent just whst your experiencing. Believe us, the check valve is stuck, you have the pump in backwords or the check valve is missing.

I'm confused. The pump normally does not fill the fresh water tank. The city water would do that and a check valve would normally keep the city water from filling the tank. Can't understand how the pump is even a part of the question.

The new pump is a Shurflo Revolution. And yes it pumps water just fine. Just fills the fresh water tank if we leave the valve shut or drips a stream of water if we leave the fresh water valve open. The old pump was a Shurflo Whisper King.

The check valve is not closing.
What was make and model of old pump?
What is make and model of new pump?
Does it pump water with good volume and pressure? If, no check input and output of pump to insure it is in correctly.

I would open the freshwater drain valve on the freshwater tank. That should keep your camper from flooding until you get the water pump fixed.

Sounds like the check valve on the new pump is stuck open. Take it back out take it apart and fix it.

It sounds like the check valve that keeps city water from entering the tank has failed. BTW when he changed the pump did be put the same exact model in place of the old one? Is it possible that the check vavle was part of the old pump??
