Honda Generator EU2000

We recently bought a new Honda generator. The first time we used it all was well. A few days later we used it again. This time the generator RPM oscillated the entire time we used it. The only way I could get it to run smoothly was to apply the choke about halfway. Even after the generator was all warmed up it would oscillate without the choke applied. Any ideas on what will cure this?

I don't use my Honda's enough. When I do I always run them dry and the drain the carb bowl. So far no issues.
I live in the epicenter of oil refining but can't buy non ethanol gas.
I've been using Startron fuel preserver. I have 50 gallons of gas in my boat that probably haas been in there 4 months.

I have to say, this was my first thought as well. In ECO mode, the RPM's will vary based on generator load from from whatever device is using the electrical power.

And there's a recall / stop sale on EU2000... make sure your's isn't part of the recall.

The choke switch on my EU2000 always seemed backwards to my minds way of thinking. What you think is choke might actually be run.

It will help to use premium gas in future. Where I live premium has no ethanol.

Sta-bil is a good product but it has not, for me, cured surging. Seafoam has done so on two different generators.

Seafoam and Sta-Bil are somewhat alike, but more ways different. If you want to use Sta-Bil, use the blue or marine grade one NOT the red one. Before the days of Ethanol, the red Sta-Bil was okay to use. Now w/ the use of Ethanol, not so. Seafoam is a great product to clean and combat the effects of Ethanol. I run Star-Tron in weed eater, chain saw and snowmobiles. No problem w/ any of them. If ya want MO, use Seafoam or Star-Tron.

Which Seafoam product are you all using for treating the gas? I’ve used Stabil so would like to compare the two.

If it’s brand new I’d take it back and see what they will do... something is in the fuel delivery orfice tube.

Regarding Seafoam... it’s not snake oil...one of the best fuel products on the market... I’d run it all the time ... and do.. in all my yard equipment and both of my Honda 2000s to keep fuel system clean..

I also dont have to worry about fuel gumming up during non use times since I run Seafoam all the time...

Hope you get issue resolved..

Dumb question here, did you flip the fuel cap to “open”. Both mine will do that if I forget to flip the slide switch in the fuel cap to open.

Double check about the air vent on the fuel cap. Also consider painting / marking the air vent on the fuel cap white so it is easier to see and remember.

Just a note... a "fuel related issue" with small engines is usually NOT covered under a warranty. Dirty fuel, clogged fuel lines, dirt in carburetor, etc usually is not covered by warranty.

Seafoam is an excellent product. It doesn't work magic, but it routinely saves tearing a carburetor apart in engines that have been sitting.

I am FIRM believer in the deadpan. Mine was doing the same thing and seafoam cured Mine. By all means try it.
