How do you carry Kayaks on your 5er

Looking to get a 5er and was wondering how you guys carry kayaks. I have 2 about 12' long and need some ideas. Obviously my rack on truck will not work as the 5er will be occupying the bed.

This is what many are referring to. Works great, many use it and no permanent mount. If it won't go in your garage just take the rack off the roof. You probably aren't going to be driving around with the front T attached when you are not carrying the kayaks.

Correct. Even though I've found that if I'm not carrying the 12ft kayak, with my B&W moved to the rear, I can carry the 10 footers on the cab of the truck with the roof racks. But with the 12s, the front rack is a must with the 5er.

We saw one the other day where they had mounted them under the front of the 5er between the jacks. They didn't seem to have clearance issues since we were camping a ways back in a fairly gnarly road.

Thanks for all the ideas people, the only limitation i have is the permanent mounted rack I use must be low profile to allow me to pull into the standard height garage. I currently have a Backrack behind the rear window that fits just fine. So my only option may be front mounted rack to work with the Backrack or rear mounting of a hitch on back of fiver. Putting them inside would work but they are usually wet or muddy from the places we put in and DW would have a fit with the mess.I also will be hauling bikes too.

The way I do it may sound a bit odd but it works great. I purchased and mounted a bolt-on "Class III" hitch for the front (yes, front) of my Silverado. To that I mount a Yakama "Dry Dock". Over the cab I mount a single Yakama Cross Bar using Yakama "Q Towers". I place the bar over the front seat of the cab but it can be adjusted to fit the length of your boat(s). On top, I mount and secure 2, Wilderness System "The Ride" 'yaks measuring 13'. Have been doing this since about 2004 and the system works great. If you'll send me an email addy through the PM system, I'd be pleased to send you some pictures. I have also put together a rope system that allows me to very quickly load and secure either one or both of our 'yaks in the bed of the truck for use when we are not pulling the "5th". I am able to do this without having to remove the 5th Wheel hitch.

Happy Camping!

At one time, I had a 10ft kayak and a 14ft canoe inside the 5er. Sold them both about 3 yrs ago and just tow a boat now.

I use a Yakima roof rack and J cradles on the roof of our truck. We carry 2 12' kayaks with no issues. The rear of the kayaks are about 18" away from nose of FW. I do not use a front bumper mount rack for support, the front mount hitch is for the bike rack.

I bought one of these this spring, it was expensive, but it works very well. I still kind of wish I would have built one myself for much less money, but DW said no, buy one.

I also have front hitch with the tee (which is the same set up used the in the rear receiver to carry long boards) to carry a 14' boat.
