I just moved up from a TT to a FW. How high should it sit above the truck bed sides ? As it sits now I've got 7 in or so. Mine is set up with goose neck adapter.
Thanks for any help

That is something I never plan for, at least at 75mph! :B

Does it mention how many "stacked fists" for off road clearance????

A rule thumb is minimum of 6" but I've got away with just 5" but that was with a previous light fiver pin weight. I now have 8-9" but still gotta watch some of those entry/exit parking dips especially at some fuel stations.

Thanks for the help everyone. The gooseneck was done by the previous owner. I had a b&w gooseneck for my work trailers so it worked out. My truck is used for work and I have to have a flat bed when not using the 5er. I may switch it back to FW by using the B&W FW that attaches to the gooseneck ball. Not sure it's really worth it though because the old owner pulled it a lot as goose nek so if there is any damage it's already been done. The trailer is a 2004 coachman and its in great shape so I don't thing th GN set up has harmed it any. Right now it has 7 in of clearance and is almost dead level. We are going on a 1000 mile trip next week so I will keep a close eye one it . Thanks again for the replies

Is the trailer level at 7" if so your fine..... If not you need to be careful that you are not overloading the lower end trailer axle. Trailer should be close to level hitched up.

As above gooseneck adapters are not necessarily recommended on a fifth wheel trailer puts more stress on the frame as they are not designed like a gooseneck trailer.

7" should be fine. Just watch how it does in the dips out of a parking lot. If the bed gets too close to the bottom of the trailer you may need to raise it.

I love those type of directions. Who's fists?

6" minimum.

Long time since 5ver but think 6" is good. My 5ver was about 6". Be careful with goose neck adapter. They put lots of stress on 5vers. 5vers aren't as strong as stocktrailers.
