How much can the landing gears lift?

Hi,

I am temporarily parked on my inclined drive way to ready the FW for the weekend. The fridge will not start because the front end of the FW is not level with the rear. Can the landing gears lift the weight of my F350 still attached to the FW in order for me to bring the front end of the FW level?

I think you would risk breaking a weld on the cross members that hold the pinbox.

Now THAT'S a good point that hadn't crossed my mind. That would be a rude wakeup call. Unless the gear dug in, it would roll for sure.

If you are on that much of a slant, as soon as the truck wheels leave the ground away you go...However, I lifted my f-250 rear wheel far enough to put a jack under the axle after blowing a tire. It looked like it would lift the truck rear off the ground. just sayin..

My 5ifth wheel manual states that each front jack is rated for 3500# each leg.

The book also recommends solid wheel chocking to prevent axial damage.

In the safety notes for the jacks the book says:
**Under no circumstance should the front electric jacks be used to lift trailer while connected to tow vehicle.
Serious injury and damage to equipment may occur.

I can certainly tell when my landing gear starts to lift my truck, simply from the sound of the motor starting to strain. When I hear that, I reverse back for a couple seconds before I unhitch. To the OP, I agree that, unless your driveway has a =huge= slope, you've likely got something else wrong that's preventing the fridge from cooling than being out of level. Run your gear down a ways, drop the extensions, chock the wheels, unhook and get yourself level to be sure.

I think the OP is coming to the 2nd or 3rd best place I would go to ask a question! and it seems like he's gotten his answer 🙂

Besides getting a written (only since phone reps are usually minimum wage) email from the mfg...
the regular users of really active websites are a great resource...

My manual is SO generic as to be almost useless 🙂

Hi Aruba,
I was wondering; have you taken the opportunity to read thru any manuals or documentation that may have come with your trailer?

The manuals that usually come with RV's can be somewhat helpful.
There are a number of safety tips noted all thru these handy little guides.

Don't do it. Unhook.

You are likely to shear a roll pin that protects the motor from overload/overtravel.

This happened to me. DW forgot to pull the latch & tried raising the fiver. It sheared the pin as mentioned. Had to remove everything in the basement to access the motor. If yours is set up like a lot of keystone products expect that too happen or as mentioned blow a fuse

Yea, it'll do it. I see trucks hanging from 5th wheels all the time. That's the way I rotate my duallie's tires.

Chock the 5er's wheels and unhitch!
Then level, but I doubt that not being level will keep the frige from firing, it may not cool, but the burner should light.
