My brother has a 2017 F-150 with a 2.7 ecco-boost. His cargo capacity sticker on his door say 1280lbs. He wants to pull a small Jayco Toy-hauler with a dry weight of 4-5,000 lbs and a dry hitch weight of 635 lbs. I don't think he has enough payload but I am not an expert. What say you?

That would be for the truck. It's normally in the manual or on a sticker attached to the hitch.

You canโ€™t find max tongue weight this way.

Correct way to do it is to put the truck in a CAT scale and put everything in it like you will tow.

Then take that weight and subtract that from the GVWR of the truck. That is how much tongue weight you can carry.

You'll be fine. I would suggest Air bags or leaf helpers along with weight distribution bars. Just expect to go up hills real slow...โ€ฆ If you can see if you can borrow a trailer or use that one and see how it works out first.

1280# payload
Subtract ALL weight of passengers,backpacks/bags, stuff in truck cab, stuff in truck bed, weight of hitch

How much is left over?

Enough to handle WET tongue weight of roughly 12% of trailers loaded weight?

How about trucks rear axle rating and actual weight ....got enough room left to handle weight of loaded trailer tongue weight w/o going over RAWR?
Same for truck rear tires...MAX Load Ratings
Is it time for your medication or mine?

What/who else does he plan to carry in the truck? What does he plan on loading into the toy hauler? 5k dry could easily exceed 7k with toys. Iโ€™d say the issue is more with the little eco boost. The 3.5 would do it if he had the payload, the 2.7 not so sure.
