Landing gear problem

Sorry if this has been addressed before..tried the search function and couldn't locate anything.

Here's my problem. Hooked up the 5'er today and went to raise the landing gear. Both came up for a little ways but then the one on the driver's side suddenly went into a free fall all the way to the ground, while the other continued to raise. I can grab the leg with my hand and slide it up and down in the tube freely. It is like a gear has stripped or fallen off completely or a shear pin sheared. Help!!!

I don't think my leg on the drivers side would be that easy to remove since their is a metal plate inside the front compartment that covers that leg. You cannot see the leg from that compartment. The other side is visible. I do not have a genny. Is their an easy way to pull that leg?

Thanks for the concern Laknox - but no, the original was a bolt that the nut come off and then it fell out during rotation. We still have the original on the non-motor driven side.

You sure that's not supposed to be a shear pin? If so, then if you have a problem, the bolt might cause stuff to break that's not supposed to. Just saying that you should double-check, is all.

Anything is easy to fix if you have the know how & tools to do it.

Most things are easy. It is the figuring out the easy part that is hard sometimes. Why is it that Murphy shows up to help so often?

When we had this problem, it was just the pin that held the connecting rod (to the other side) to the drive motor's shaft. It broke, all we had to do was find a replacement bolt and put it through the drive shaft on the motor, tighten with a nut and we were good to go. the Hardest part was lining up the connecting rod hole with the hole in the motor's drive shaft.

We used a better bolt than the original - surprise on that.

Keep in mind that a great many folks out there don't even know how to change the oil in their vehicles, which is far simpler than what you just described. Can't relate to that myself, but that's how it is.

They are easy to get out. While supporting that side, remove the two bolts holding it to the frame, Disconnect the cross over shaft and lift it out, dropping the foot and inner leg in the process. These things are so simple it makes me wonder why people don't fix them at home. Take the top cap off and look. You will see two bevel gears one turns the screw to move the leg up/down. Could be a broken gear, missing drive pin or stripped gear. It will be apparent fast enough when you take it apart.

There is a shear pin (drive pin) that connects the bevel gear to drive shaft.
