Looking for a wireless back up camera

It is not uncommon when we camp close to home that I take the camper out myself and set up and then later on the wife and kids show up. As always the first thing I do is be very mindful of my surroundings. Looking at the site very well when I first get there to be sure it is ok to back into. I check for the usual - low limbs - kids playing - anything left behind from previous campers - you know just the basic things you should be looking out for. So I get back into the truck and start to back my unit into place and then I get that feeling that maybe I overlooked something. So I get out about halfway through the process just to be sure all is ok. I was just thinking if I had a wireless camera I could set on the bumper this would help ease my mind of what's going on behind me. Looking for something inexpensive but good quality. Anyone else tried this. Thanks for any info.:):@

I installed a hard wire system and I can plug it in my GPS video input. I installed a power switch that causes my GPS to change to my Back Up Camera when I want to change lanes on the Interstate. I never thought I would like it, but I will not have a 5th wheel without a Back Up camera.

That's what we do - leave it on when drving down the road.

These folks pretty much *must* have a back-up camera.
Long trailers - and no rear windows in cabs.

Some add additional cameras for side blind spots (while driving).

IIRC - Voyager only allows one additional camera (and it's pricey)

Voyager is great. We just picked up our new TH. At 43 feet, signal was great and it worked well. Bonus is you can leave it on on the highway and know you're clear if passing.

Excellent idea GailGold! We have cones so we should put them to good use when backing. Good for you too on doing the work. That's where I need to be.

I just took my first trip with my new Voyager Wireless Backup Camera... and I LOVE IT! I use 4 reflective cones to mark where I want to back to... (length and side markers), and it saves me jumping out of the cab constantly to see where the heck my backside REALLY is... 🙂 This trip had trees and big boulders to maneuver into (not to mention the usual fire pit and picnic table). Perfect landing! BTW: Not that it should matter, but I am a woman who routinely sets up and breaks down my fiver alone. 🙂

We took the same route that others have an connected an aftermarket camera to our GPS. It doesnt come up automatically when you go into reverse but it still works for our needs.

DIY RV has an article about the different backup RV camera options. Turns out there are alot and a HUGE range of prices.

I currently use a Peak 3.5" wireless RVC. The camera goes in the rear window of the camper and I have 2 extensions (purchased from eTrailer) that allow the transmitter to be in the cab.

During our last outing end of May I still had issues with interference. I was perplexed because it worked great for a local trip last year.
By process of elimination I found that the Bluetooth on my Garmin 765T was messing with the receiver/monitor. Once I shut that off it worked 100% without fail for the 7-1/2 hour ride home from PA.

The Bluetooth of my iPhone or Kenwood radio did not seem to have any effect on performance of the monitor.

I did not try to leave the transmitter inside the camper because it works now with it being in the cab.

I bought a Pyle wireless back up camera reconditioned for only $40. Couldnt get a signal from 30+ foot back of the trailer. Thinking about adding to the signal antenna wire and moving it farther under the trailer closer to the truck. If it works out I will report. For only 40 bucks its worth messing with. It works OK for a regular backup camera on the truck and I can see clear back to the trailer tires but fades in and out sometimes.

I know that feeling. 🙂

The only wireless cameras that had consistently good reviews were too expensive for me. I also didn't want to deal with another LCD screen. I ended up buying a Rear View Safety backup camera and a Garmin video cable to connect the camera to my dezl 560LMT GPS.

Same here on the Voyager. You wire it into the clearance lights, so lights have to be on for it to work, but the signal is good in the TV and the screen is good. We got the standard screen size. Yes, it's a little on the spendy side but it works.

We added the Voyager rear camera....it was just under a $1,000.... and does work very well.
