Mini fridge in basement

Thinking of purchasing a mini fridge to install in the basement area. I plan to purchase a 1,500 watt modified sine wave inverter so we can operate it while driving. I will install the inverter close to the battery but the fridge may be a few feet away.
Has anyone done this?
Will a small fridge run O.K. on this type of inverter?
Thanks

Yes. 12 volt cooler takes a long time to cool and only works well if it's not too hot outside.

It definitely seems that I will be able to get by without an inverter. I was wondering if I would need something to keep the door closed.
I've been using a 12 volt cooler until now. Thought this would be a better solution.
Thanks for the replies.

We put a mini fridge in the basement when we bought the 5th wheel. I go the biggest one that I could manage to fit in there. Took me nearly 2 hours of scratching my head and tipping rotating and prying to get it in place. It holds 3 cases of pop and we usually fill it a day or two before we leave. Once the pop is cold it will stay cold all day long. I had to test this once when I took the camper to work one time so I could leave right from work to meet with freinds at a different campground without having to go home.

Just obtain a stretchy-strap of some sort to wrap around the unit to keep the fridge door closed while traveling, and your drinks will stay cold all day. We love our basement fridge set up, bye-bye cooler.

Just a thought. I had a mini-frig in the basement and it worked well for drinks, etc. It also worked well to heat the compartment when the door was closed. Now if staying in a secure spot I take it out and place on table under the awning.

Nobody posting mentioned the heat that the refer makes. Will it have enough room down there to get rid of it? If I did that I'd make sure to add some vents in the basement to get rid of excess heat.

The area is quite large and the fridge only draws about 80 watts when running. It will cycle on and off so I doubt there will be much heat. It's something to consider though. I'll keep an eye on it.
Thanks

What brand and from what company are you looking at??

PowerBright. I was going to order it from Costco here in Canada. They seem to have good reviews.

I would agree, without opening for extended periods just about any fridge will hold temperature for a few hours.

We've had a big cooler loaded with ice and drinks and it did really well in our basement.

We have a fridge in our outdoor kitchen. Will stay cold, full of drnks, for hours without being plugged in.

HERE is a 300W (600W surge) PSW for $75 delivered from Amazon. I'm not sure how that works north of the border.

Nice to hear you like Toronto. We haven't been to Texas yet but it's on our bucket list.

Maybe I'll try it without an inverter to see if everything stays cold enough. Maybe I can get by without the inverter. I can use the money I saved to fill it.:)
