Moving from Short bed to Long be tow vwhicle.

After 10 years of very successful towing our 5th wheel with a short bed truck with a Pullrite slider hitch we are getting a full bed and staying with Pullrite but not their slider it will be a Super 5th 20K.

Couple questions will my backing up be different with this setup? And please tell me that with a full bed there is much less chance of hitting the cab on a severe jack knife that with the short bed.

And information will be appreciated.

Merry Christmas!

Just curious why are you switching to a LB?
I agree it makes it easier towing but not as good as a driver once you're parked.

Only if you convince yourself it is so hast to park!!! :S

They drive and park just fine, my youngest daughter, aced her drivers test in a long bed Club cab F250.

There's a bigger difference between a long bed club and a long bed crew than you think. My daily driver (Company truck) is a long bed crew and my personal TV's are standard bed crews and although I can pull them all in just about the same places there is a big difference in the ease of doing it with the shorter wheel base truck. This choice is going to be one of preference. I have no need for a long bed truck because I can haul what ever I need with it. When there comes a time I can't put it in the bed of the truck because it is 1.5' shorter I will just take a trailer. That's what the hitch on the back is for. The longest thing I've ever hauled in my 6.5' bed was 16' lumber so I guess if it's over 16' I'll just have to get my trailer.:B

BTW, I aced my CDL test in a truck that was 60' long but I would have also aced it in a 75' long truck. They would have given me more space to parallel parked the longer truck.;)

True, but difficulty is a mind set. I daily drive my 2001 Quad Cab Ram Long Bed, I can park with ease either in a Parking lot or Parallel. I have also parallel parked it with a GN horse trailer attached. I think many that are worried about size and fit don't DD their TV, maybe once in a while, but have a small DD for mileage, so now they are not accustomed to the size.

Both our vehicles are GMC long box trucks. If my wife has no problem using one for an every day driver there is no way anyone here couldn't use one.

I've had both a short bed (6.5 ft 2500) and a long bed (8 ft 3500 SRW). Seems to be a much better ride with the LB, and have never gotten close to putting the nose through the cab window with our Pullrite Super fifth. Only 'complaint' I have is that the 3500 is too long to fit in our garage. It's a fair trade off, though, considering the additional bed space, turning radius, and improved ride.

Talk about much ado about nothing. We've been towing 5th wheels with long bed duallies since 1996. Neither my wife nor I think twice about driving the truck wherever we need to go after we've unhitched from the 5th wheel. Of course, both of us drive when towing as well. And, yes, our truck is a crew cab long bed.

I think after you back up a couple of times you'll forget about any difference. If you get in a situation where you need to get more than 90 degrees, maybe you shouldn't have.

I have a long bed and there is a lot of room between the cab and front of 5er. Would have to jacknife well over 90 to hit. And no reason to ever do that.

I had a Pullrite Super 5th 16k and really liked it. If they had had one at the time I bought the 2012 F350 to fit the factory hitch prep I would have bought another.

No reason to go 90* either...........

I consider myself a pretty good driver, so the dealer and I brought the dully home. Mathematically I should have been able to get it in with only 2 inches on each side. Got it in took about 10 minutes. I was very nervous about doing this, got it out with a scratch. Next we repeated the experiment with the Denali full bed. Went in as easy as my short bed. Had enough room in front and back, needless to say I was very pleased. If this would have not worked we wouldn't have bothered to upgrade. If we fulltimed I would most definitely have a dully. This was the first time I had ever driven a dully, what a great feeling of stability in the back (I am not saying our SRW isn't good our Alaska trip proved this!).

Once I went with my first long-bed, I never went back to short bed. Its all I buy now.

Just curious. You said a dually won't fit in the garage. The long bed isn't too long, is it? Most typical garages aren't long enough these days. When we built our house, I had my garage plans extended to accommodate a long bed truck.

I think a long bed rides and handles better when towing the 5.

I think you will like the long bed. I know I do. I just park way out in parking lots, although I have put it in a couple of parking garages, when necessary. Never even come close to hitting the cab with 5er.

Went from F250 to F350 DRW a couple of years ago. Outside of not getting it in the garage, I don't see a lot of down side. I also went from a super glide, but after checking prices I went with B&W puck hitch. I loved the pull right, but after pulling with the B&W I wouldn't go back. Also I could buy it a lot cheaper.

I cannot fit a dully in my garage and we thought it was time to upgrade. We are moving from a 2011 3500 SB CC Silverado to a 2016 GMC Denali full bed CC. More space in the bed will be nice. Do we have to no, but since we spend about 4 to 5 months on the road why not enjoy it as much as possible.
