New Toy Hauler "Rage'n" by Pacific Coach Works 25FFX Issues

We recently purchased a new 2016 toy hauler such that I would be able to haul both my RzR and ATV out to the desert. We had to drive out of state to purchase because the front bath models are getting more rare and none of the front bedroom models has enough cargo area to haul both unless we went to a 32ft.

Last trip to the desert we started having issues. Water Leak somewhere between the bottom insulation and bathroom vanity, Door not always fully closing, roof bubbling up.

Worst of all, when backing into the driveway (which is on a hill) I head something pop and when I went to remove the ball from the trailers hitch I found the latch was pushed back, and the pin would not release. I decided to try raising the tongue jack to see if I could relieve or at least change the pressure and the ball popped right out of the hitch with the latch pin still in place!

Dealerships all say it is impossible if we are using the right size ball (And we are) but I'm afraid to tow it now. But I saw it happen with my own eyes. I ended up having to hammer the pin out of the latch and I was then able to operate it like normal.

They said if what I was saying was true they would need to cut off the tongue of the trailer and replace the whole thing but only if they can reproduce the problem (which I can't seem to be able to) ๐Ÿ˜ž

Not sure what to do now? Is our only option to trade it in on another 2016? Manufacturer also said they will not warranty the roof because it meets their standards still.

We have also had other issues, for example, before we could even try the pull down bed, the paneling fell off on the way home from the dealership!

I would highly advise people to stay away from this brand (Anything by Pacific Coach Works), I'm wishing we had our 10 year old sierra back. It never had any real issues other than typical maintenance stuff. As of right now it seems we will be missing the rest of the desert season while trying to figure out what to do. So much for getting to use our new toys before they go obsolete.

I will attach some pictures in a few.

This is the latch pushed back slightly with the pin still in it. It came off the ball exactly as you see it. This should not be possible and seems like towing with it would be extremely dangerous. Should I hire a flat bed to haul it to the dealership? I'm pretty sure they will just say it is working fine and not cover the cost of the tow or do anything to fix it.

This is the roof, it has bubbles like this at every seam. They said it is up to their quality standards and denied warranty repair. Our 10 year old sierra had no such bubbles when we traded it in, and this is a 2016!

I guess I cannot post pictures on this forum?

Keep hammering. if there are structural issues it should go back to the factory and since they're in Perris it's pretty convenient. The "old" Rage'n was great at this, I had mine back twice for warranty issues and they went way above and beyond. Unfortunately they went under with WW.

Sorry this happened to you. We bought a lemon with a list as long as yours. The dealership started hanging up on me when I called. ThorCA finally took care of everything after I sent them a letter with dates and contacts. After it was all said and done, I told my story to every web page or forum I could find. The dealership used craigslist so I started posting negative adds. Just because someone else had good luck with the manufacture, doesn't mean they don't have a quality problem. Bad quality is rarely consistent.

Boy...a complete rebuild of the top and one side of your trailer due to structural issues? Hopefully you are still within your warranty period?

I'm not sure about what to do, but it sounds like step 1 would be to get a write up of exactly what all the shop is going to do and have the costs of all the repairs itemized. Then you can compare the repair cost to what you paid and hopefully simply tell them you want a different trailer because yours is totalled.

I'm pretty sure the manufacturer will object to that, at which point I'd go see a lawyer and find out what you should do.

NOTE: I dunno exactly what is going on with the roof, but is it as simple as pulling back the rubber roof and reattaching some of the plywood sheeting to the vehicle's frame? If so, that seems to be quite a ways from a complete rebuild.

Is the shop a Rage'n dealer? If not, I can imagine issues will arise.

So our trailer has been at the shop for a couple months to repair a small 6" dent from a small tree branch. it has taken 6 weeks just for the repair place to get the decal, and when they received it Pacific Coach Works shipped them the wrong decal (Correct part number but wrong decal). We had them look into some of the other issues as well.

They told us the roof needs to be removed and replaced and that the rubber roof appears to be what is holding together some of the boards under it, as the board under it are loose and will rub a hole in the rubber. They also found the right side of the trailer is shifting around and has bowed the aluminum panels on the exterior. The recommend a full rebuild of the roof and right hand side of the trailer.

Other issues are a leak under the bathroom sink has damaged the cabinet under the sink (recommended replacing the cabinet). We also found that the company forgot to seal the shower and after the first shower fixed that ourselves.

They initially thought the front of the trailer was delaminating, but the manufacturer informed them that it's just how they make them (loose so they cam move around a bit), so I guess it's just something we have to live with.

We have also fixed a leak under the kitchen sink, and fixed the rear bed that is supposed to hold the ladder and keep the mattress from landing in the living room. (it fell apart on the way home from the dealership)

I fixed the hitch issues by changing the angle on our ball, it was setup improperly from the sales place which caused it to have a hard time seating and unseating properly.

The entrance light falls off every trip on the road because the plastic clips that are supposed to hold it are broken.

Stove light is burned out already, but it was hardly bright enough to be useful anyways.

We waited until our first camping season was over because the estimated wait time to fix the shower and bed was 3-4 months.

At this point it looks like we will for sure lose an entire year of camping again because it has taken so long just to get the dent fixed, and the bad news from the repair place about 1/2 the trailer needing to be rebuilt.

I would AVOID buying this brand trailer at all costs. Complete junk. Trying to figure out if we will take more of a loss buying a cheap old rig to get us through the season, or selling the toys and buying new ones when / if we ever get the trailer back from being repaired.

They already have your money...

I dealt with the same lack of return calls and excuses after I purchased my unit just over a year ago from Toyhauler Liquidators in Rocklin CA. Just wanted to get a badly warped interior door replaced. What a fiasco.. Finally just gave up and went to social media (Yelp, FB, etc..)to express my opinions about the dealer.

Lets face it, RV warranties are a joke and there aren't many dealers willing to make things right. Its all about getting the unit out the door and making the sale for most of these guys unfortunately.

I don't see your roof blowing off... Just a few wrinkles in the rubber. IF it really bothers you, cut it, lay it flat and run a piece of Eternabond tape over the top of it.

We purchased from Cactus RV in Tucson Arizona, they have not responded to a single email I have sent them after they made the sale.

So the new roofs are just crappy then I guess? I have never been up on one and seen this on older trailers EVER but QC seems to only be getting worse these days so I guess it should be no surprise. I'll have to wait until it blows off on the freeway I guess. I wanted to be sure it was ok before we have solar installed and that they would not void our warranty.

Going to try to reproduce the issue later today.

I'm going to try to put enough pressure on the catch to see if it can jam the latch back a bit again, but it might require a fully loaded trailer to do so, and I only have my small V8 truck, the truck we use to tow (3500) is not available today.

we have a 2014 pacificcoach works sandsport. no problems like you are having. our radio/dvd unit did not work correctly and the shower head clogged up quick but that was it. we bought the extra warranty and had everything fixed with that at mike thompsons in colton. did run the generator for about 6 months and had to get the carb replaced but that is not their fault.

Just the opposite. As rubber heats it expands/stretches. As it cools it will become tighter. People have to realize roof surfaces are not flat/linear and when you stretch a rubber material over it some places are going to be tighter than others. Just the way it is. Still think the OP's complaints/concerns are much ado about nothing in terms of the roof. Stop worrying about every little thing and enjoy the trailer. No RV is going to be perfect.

If you are sure you have the correct size ball, and if you can't see any damage to the trailer hitch (examining from underneath), then chances are it wasn't hitched correctly.

Many of us raise the truck/trailer to attach our WDH bars. This makes it very easy to set the chains and tests the hook-up.

While the roof wrinkles are ugly, the material is functional unless it leaks.

If I needed a new TH today, I don't know what brand I would buy. Good luck.

Don't believe a rubber roof is adhered to the roof surface. Isn't it just stretched over and sealed around the edges?

It is a brand new unit and Pacific coach works or the dealer should correct the issues he has concerns with. Keep an eye on the roof to see if it gets bigger over time I think it's adhesion problems. If you really want to get it fixed go up there pull on it a few times and make "24x24";) As for the hitch I would try a new ball hook it up to the truck and play with it or try to do the exact thing you did backing up to see if it happens again.

We bought our toy hauler new 2013 pacific coach works powerlite. So far our unit has been good to us and we're happy with it. Curious what dealership you got yours from? I'm in Oxnard, ventura county and we drove to Beaumont RV. Only issue we had was our DVD player didn't not show picture just sound. After a few phone calls Beaumont RV switched ours out to a new unit upgraded unit too with bluetooth.

What is the concern with the bubbles in the roof rubber? I suspect many trailers have some to some extent. As long as the surface is sealed and the rubber is not compromised I don't see an issue with it other than looks which nobody will ever see anyways.
