I just bought a 2014 F350 Diesel with only 1150 mi. Are the 2014 more reliable than my 2005 Diesel. I know it's a different it's the 6.7 the 05 was the 6.0. Is there anything I should be aware off. Thanks.

Congrats on the new truck!

I would think these questions should have been asked before buying the truck?

I would make sure to buy your fuel from places that go thru a lot.

Clean waterless fuel is the key for your engine.

Enjoy the new ride!

I owned a 2011 F 350 w/ the 6.7L diesel.

Way, WAY more reliable than the 6.0L diesel.

However, there is one weak spot on that engine, which Ford has reportedly corrected by a change in the 2015's.

The high pressure fuel pump. It is a Bosch CP 4.2 pump. The problem with this pump arises from US diesel fuel standards.

Bosch made the pump to work on European diesel standards, which have a wear scar rating of 460 max.

Mind you, the ONLY lubrication this pump gets is from the fuel itself.

So then you have the US diesel fuel, which is manufactured to a wear scar rating of 520 max.

So you may wish to add a lubricity additive on a very regular basis to your fuel fills to make up the difference between the design specs and US fuel specifications.

Ford sells such a product, their part number is PM 22-A. I added some each and every time I fueled up.

Also there is a fuel/water separator under the drivers door, inside the frame. Owners manual on mine says drain it once a month. I just drained a little into a large glass jar and watched this for any water levels to develop. None ever did. But, as I said, Ford says to drain this on a regular basis.

The 6.7 engine is The Hoss. Just make sure you purchase fuel from stations that sell a lot of diesel as they maintain their filtration systems better.

And be careful when you fill up the DEF tank. If you put DEF in the diesel fuel tank, it'll be a $13K repair as it sets up like concrete. So far, insurance companies are paying for the repairs.

You can't really do worse than the 6.0. It's all uphill from there.

I have heard good reports about the 6.7. The 6.0 not so much.
I have a 2002 F350 with the 7.3 Powerstroke and just love it. A little noisy, but lots of power & reportedly bullet proof. 188000 miles and counting........

The 6.7 is a vast improvement over the 6.0. I have about 55K on mine with no major problems except a blown hose on the turbine. There have been a few reports of fuel system problems but I haven't heard of any new ones in the last year or so. But you need to be careful to buy diesel in a station that has enough turnover so that the fuel isn't sitting in the underground tanks for long periods. Water in the fuel is a certain trouble maker on these high pressure fuel systems.
