On demand water heater

We just purchased a new toy hauler. The first and second and third shower was horrible. Low water flow and either the water is too hot or too cold, won't adjust, any ideas? We had an on demand in our house and we threw it out....dang.

Got a 2014 Sandstorm couple months ago have been out 4 times now, and 3 times the tankless hot water failed to work. We have been taking "cold" showers, which isn't so bad here in So Cal during the summer ๐Ÿ™‚ The trailer is in the shop right now for this problem, they said they found a bad switch in the unit and have to order new one. I'll find out exactly what switch and report back later this week. The problem I had was the fan would come on, but the propane heater never fired so it did not get hot and fan shut off after about 15 sec.
Reading these forums looks like these tankless units have some reliability problems. Hopefully mine will be ok once fixed. I have tankless unit in my house and works great for the family, unlimited piping hot water, which is why I went for this upgrade on the toy hauler.

For the water pressure: Disconnect the hose from the actual faucte / shower plumbing (ie. shower head). Make sure there aren't any "shavings" stuck in the line. Also, turn the shower on with the line disconnected from the head to make sure you have good water pressure. Run the hot first and the cold second to see if there is a difference in the pressure. If not start working your way back via the water lines. Our water pump (under the kitchen sink) was replaced with a whisper flow one.

went out for 5 days over the 4th of July. Camping @ 6800' in northern Az. Lows in the 50's. This Truma heater performed flawlessly. Love it.

i'm guessing you have some hidden issue somewhere
in both our previous and our current rig we can take multiple showers in a row and not get cold water (running either electric or lp for heat)

our new rig has a variable pump so the pressure is more even which is a plus

hearing that you couldn't adjust i'd guess the issue is somehow connected to the water flow at the shower head; maybe some obstruction

I am currently doing a field test for Truma on their new propane tankless water heater. I will be out for a week over the 4th. I have a post in the tech issues section. I will share my thoughts after the trip. I think I will like it. Truma has been in the rv world in Europe for many years. tankless heaters are very popular there from what I have learned.

Best improvement i ever did to my house, would love one for our hauler.

Ok lets start with what toy hauler you have. Is this happening using the water pump or while connected with a hose?

The pumps that many RVs come with are cheap cheap cheap. Upgrading to a quality one will get you a better, smoother flow.

You may have stuff plugging up your line. Take the shower head off and see how the flow is, try banging the shower head (thread side down) on the counter to see what comes out. May need to clean the faucets too.

Again, the valve that controls the hot/cold water maybe cheap, broken or something else. If this is brand new I'd call the dealer and get it in and let them deal with it. It may need replacing.

Those on demand units are designed to run with out stopping the flow. Not designed for a "Navy Shower". We have one and found out by reading the manual and calling someone. Sucks for boon docking!

AH, the ones actually made for an RV (Atwood etc) use propane.

Eh, who makes that? Every one I am familiar with uses LP not electric.

As far as the pressure goes... Oxygenetics Shower Heads are worth the money. After buying one for the camper, we put them in the sticks & bricks.

We also had low ware pressure problems. Found that the cheapo water regulator regulated too much. Went to an adjustible one with a gauge and we are much happier!

I have also found that if we need to take many showers close together, I turn on bothe the electric and the propane elements on the water heater. This helps the tank recover faster. Otherwise, it is just on electric (when hooked up to shore power).
