Questions on installing a backup camera on a fifth wheel

Has anyone installed a backup camera on their fifth wheel? My truck's tailgate camera is obviously useless with my tailgate off when I'm towing so I've been looking into other options.

Guess the OP should have *ALSO* asked the brand names of the systems the posters were using.

Compliments to "ramrunner", "dwayneb236", and "Tin Pusher" for
including that helpful info!..:C

Well, OK then, I use this one.

Had it for 5 years or more.

I installed one on the rear up high and hardwired it. Added a hopkins 6 pin in the truck bed next to the 7 pin to make the power and video connections. Placed a second camera in the hitch bracket between the receiver and the bumper. let me see the tires and axles and let me back in for a bumper pull with ease.

Hi, I have installed a full 4 camera system on my fifth. Excellent equipment, service and price from innotechrv.com.

My system consists a dual rear camera (1 wide angle that looks immediately down behind the fifth wheel and a narrower camera that can see who is coming up behind on the highway). The other two are side cameras so I can watch for tail swing and when backing into a site. This is a fully wired system with trailer connection kit to the truck but they also have wireless systems if wiring is a problem for you.

A friend has a 3-cam setup on his 40' Newmar. 1 on the extreme rear and one on each side, just behind the frame drop, and looking back. He keeps a 10" triple-screen up at all times, but can go to a single view with a touch. All hard-wired. The side cams are in little nacelles he painted to match the coach and you almost don't know they're there.

I have one on the back of my 36' fiver. I find it of minimal value backing up (the wife with a 2-way radio is much better), but it's handy for judging clearance for pulling back in after passing semis, etc.

I have done it. I have a Garmin RV 760 LMT with camera. I made two power points under my rear bumper. One from the back up lights and one that goes to one of my upfitter switches in the cab.

For just using the truck I quick connect to the back up lights power. With the 5th wheel hooked up I'll quick connect it to the upfitter switch power. The wireless receiver is ziptied under the rear bumper area.

I ran an extension under the trailer to the rear bumper where I made a mount. When I want to swap out the camera, I just unclip it from the truck plate, unplug from camera cable, plug the extension in to that, and plug the camera in at the trailer bumper.

This way I can swap between my GPS map or the back up camera whenever I like, to monitor what's behind me.

Works great and takes just a few seconds to swap out.

We installed one from Furrion. Our trailer had the base for the camera already installed, but it is available separately as well. It works for us.
