ST to LT

I know for sure this has been asked and answered hundreds of times, but have you ever searched "tires" or various derivations in the fifth wheel forum? Either no matches or 244 pages! To the point...I've gotten decent service from my mic Marathons, but time for new tires, and you LT guys have convinced me. What are some good replacements for 235 80 16, lr e? My fiver runs 11 to 11.5 k usually. I do know one option is the xps ribs, but I'm not a huge Michelin fan and man, they're spendy. Other suggestions? Should also mention I'm on a quick turnaround and not able to wait for special or back orders without canceling a trip or two. Thanks for helpful responses!

Try a GY Wingfoot dealer. Not sure what GY LT you want, as not many use Wrangers anymore.

If you are installing tires the equal or exceed GAWR no dealer should not sell you the tires. Chris

I don't know what counts as "bigger reputable" but Discount Tires put the last two sets of LT on my camping trailer.

X2 My last 2 5th wheels came new with LT tires as do many other brands. So if a dealer refuses to install them they loose business and their reputation IMO.

In think Cooper Tire makes a lot of Les Schwabs tires, and they sell a lot on the Left Coast.

Now that is a pile of tires.......it would be interesting to know how many of those 40 million tires Cooper actually made.

If the tire is not a Goodyear, Goodrich, or Michelin it is most likely made by Cooper. They seem to be the mother company for everybody except the Chinese tires.

My camper came with LT's, load range E. 245R70 16's. They rot out before they wear out. I replace them at 5 years, regardless of tread condition. Give the pull offs to my farmer son-in-law for use on farm pickups. Cheap insurance.

Wingnut, I went with the Goodyear G614's and have not regretted it. After several years of tire issues, with two trailers, I now no longer have to keep monitoring the rear view mirror to see if I see tire rubber flying.

They have a higher load rating because they're rated at a lower speed. Another issue is the lack of quality top tier ST manufactures especially in the USA. After way too many blowouts with significant damage from ST's I switched to LT's years ago and never looked back. None of the issues you mentioned and no more blow outs.
