Tekonsha P3 - What say all of you?

Hello--

I am looking for a brake controller for my truck in sig. The truck has never had a controller installed. I am considering the Tekonsha P3 based on various reviews around the internet and the reputation of Tekonsha. Is this controller as good or better than the others that are sold?

I will be towing the rig in my sig. Not that it will affect the controller, but I am also considering installing an Anderson Ultimate 5th wheel rail mount hitch.

BTW.....found this seller on eBay and the price can not be beat anywhere else that I have found.

I have a very lightly used MaxBrake I am trying to decide what to do with.

I have a voyager and it's ok.... would going to a P3 be worthwhile? worth the added expense?

Exactly.

Used one on my 2011 Sierra 1500 From March 2012 until July 2014 when I traded it in. No problems with it at all. In fact that reminds me I need to find what I did with it and put it up on ebay or craigslist.

I have the RF version of the Tekonsha and it's the BEST. I love having the emergency control in my hand at all times.

I thought my P2 was pretty decent until we towed with the new 2015 Dmax with integrated controller, unbelievable as to how much better it is in regards to braking and smoothness.I would look hard at 06 Fargos recommendation, well worth the extra dollars.

I had a Maxbrake which had a internal failure of some kind.

I bought a P3 to finish the trip. It is gawdaweful (technical term)in performance compared to the Maxbrake.

I installed a DirecLink - excellent controller. Almost plug and play. Fully adjustable for the different weight trailers I pull, and excellent proportional braking control.

I've used a P3 for the last three years. Works great. If it died or was stolen I wouldn't even stop to think about it, just get another one.

Go for it! ๐Ÿ™‚

Since "POS" isn't exactly a technical term perhaps you'd care to elaborate? :h P2 worked just fine for me, P3 is just a fancier version.

I had a 2004 F250 and it had different brake controller. It was so bad that I replaced it with P3. What a difference between night and day. Later I got 2001 F250, again it had a different brake controller. I immediately replaced it with P3.

I went from a Drawtite timed controller to a P3.....world of difference, much smoother stops, no jerking. Like the other guy said, just set it and forget it

I have the P3 and am very happy with it. No issues and much better than the generic brake controller that we used with the popup.
