I would say he probably had a ford rolling chassis and used that.

There was a guy I seen at a restaurant that had a old Studebaker truck he put on a Dodge 3500 chassis with a Cummins Diesel. He did pull a 5th wheel with it. The truck had a very small cab by today's standards but did look very cool.

I agree with the reliability of the 7.3, although anemic by today's standards.

You would still get more looks and interest in the old truck then any new truck you bought.

There's a guy around Phoenix that has a '48 GMC body on a modern flat-bed tow truck chassis. Looks pretty neat!
