Fifth wheel is 40' #18,000 gross. Ready to invest in 7 new tires. Want to invest in quality. My tire dealer offered 4 brands, all 10 ply. 235/80/16. I am unable to go to bigger size and more ply's because of space. Hercules, goodyear, maxxis, and Samson. I know about good rating on maxxis, should I go with them?

Where pray tell do you come up with 28,800 pounds carrying capacity?
4800 times four equals around 19,000 pounds.

Well OP was talking about purchasing 7 new tires so we are assuming that he has a tri-axle RV and was getting a spare also.
Yup, what he said.

No need for 17.5" tires and wheels on a tri axle trailer with 6k-7k axles.
I frequent several commercial haulers forums. The all steel ply carcass commercial grade Sailun S637 in a ST235/80-16 G at 4080 lbs are very popular with trailer owners and heavy loaded 6k and 7k axles. These type ST tires have nothing in common with the ST E tires other than being black and round.

Also the Hercules H-901 get a lot of good comments.

The Goodyear all steel carcass G614 in a LT235/85-16 E at 3750 lbs capacity are very popular with rv folks but are pricey.

I see Provider ST tires come OEM on several brands of heavy equipment trailers/6k-7k axles. There a new gen M speed rated and come in a ST235/80-16 E at 3520 lbs or a ST235/85-16 G at 4080 lbs capacity

Maxxis ST8008 ??
Maxxis gets a lot of hype on RV websites but not so much on working websites. With over 30 members from rv websites reporting issues with them....they have been the better of the ST E type tires on smaller trailers.

Sailuns can run just fine at 80psi. I checked with Sailun and the agreed and sent me their current load inflation chart. At 80psi they are an E load rated tire. Also all 17.5in tires require an 8 lug wheel. Their are no options for 17.5 on a 6 lug wheel.

How about 4805 pound load rating each!
Overkill? Maybe, but look on the plus side, easy to find, good for a 100K miles, and probably cheaper than some 16 inch options.

Aw geeze, just go online and buy 17.5 inch tire and wheel package and be done with it. With ratings well over 4000 pounds each you will never regret it.
Yep, that describes the Sailun alright: 4080 lbs. carrying capacity. Oh yeah, you won't need new wheels either since they come in the 235/80/16. ๐Ÿ™‚ So you can save yourself some dough. Win, win, win. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just bought a set of Goodyear Endurance ST225/75R15s. They are the only ST 15" tires I have found that are made in the USA. You might want to check them out.
