Is anyone towing 22,000 lbs. plus? If so, what are you towing with? Which rear end, what kind of mileage do you get? Do you have any tips? Have you pulled in the mountains, any problems? Thanks so very much for your help.

That I don't know, but to me, at almost 66 yrs of age, I don't give a flying flip if a diesel engine will make it to 500K or not...I'll never live to see it, so it's a moot point to me...I'll let the younger guy's fight this one out..

What I want to know is how did the PS 6.7 go from 200-250K duty cycle to 500K?????

What is "Design life" ??? Is it Ford's way to fudge the numbers?

Turn the power down, that's it. Ram does the same thing with the cab chassis trucks.;)

believe your right....de-tuning would have a lot to do with it I would think buddy.

Ford just released the info for the 6.7L in the new F650 and F750, now with a design life of 500,000 miles. Yes a B10 life of 500K, if you don't know what that is google it, then look up what the 6.7 cummins is

Sorry but taking a bail out from the tax payers is enough for me to avoid them, dodge, and now this new info.

Yea yea the 6.0 was a problem child, the 6.4 was choked by emissions, don't put the 6.7 the same boat. Built by a different company and has NOTHING in common with them.

Ford and GM share the same HP fuel pump and cummins will follow, they'll have to increase the rail pressure and the cp3 can't take according to the guys who build it anyway.

You want a tough truck to tow a big fiver, look into the F450 or F550. The 450 comes with a pickup truck bed, not a CC

Thanks for the personable information...but to tow 22K, one doesn't need a 450/4500, 550/5500 or a 650/6500...and at almost 66 yeas of age, me personally, I don't give a flip about achieving 500K...I won't live long enough to drive one that far and certainly don't need those trucks when a 350/3500 can tow it, and I can get all the miles out of it before I'm gone and I hit never will that "magic???" number....the F450 can't do much more , if anything as far as towing, than the Ram 3500....Ram's 3500 is as tough as the F450 in my own stupid personal opinion...

Texas Roadrunner,

If you don't have air bags on your GM Dually get a set installed, you will need them no doubt!

As mentioned load up and enjoy the ride! I am sure your truck will be fine.

As stated initially, just wanted to find out your experiences with towing a heavy fiver, e.g. 22,000 pounds plus with a Ford or Ram. I am grateful to all who took the time to answer my query. Those answers have helped us a good deal. As stated we love our GMC dually, DH really hates to part with it, but we are really concerned about the numbers which tell us we would have problems towing in the mountains, and that is where we go to escape that dreaded heat!

Isn't a 2015 D/A dually rated at 23500 lb 5er.You have as good a TV as you can get now . Try it before you go spend your money and then find out not any better with another rig.

Right now we are at 22,500 lbs. with not a stick of cargo loaded. Although I am not sure of the weight of our cargo, most folks carry 1500 - 2000 lbs, so that would put us over the recommended tow weight and GVWR, hence we feel we should upgrade to a truck with a higher towing capacity.

Load up as if you were going camping and head to a CAT scale and see =exactly= what you weigh. If you're not comfortable with the #'s, =then= start thinking about a different truck. Personally, were I < 1k over GCW, I'd probably still tow it, though some upgrades to the truck, as I previously said, might be in order. Growing up on a farm and towing stupidly heavy stuff with 1/2 ton trucks might cloud my thinking a bit, though... :B

If you can carry the pin weight within specs, why worry about mountains and get rid of a perfectly good truck? The trailer should stop itself and the truck stops itself; if you want extra braking power, install an exhaust brake on the truck. Now, if you're real marginal on the numbers with the current truck, yes, you might want to get a newer truck with a higher payload. Brakes =might= be slightly better, but they might be the same, too. Engines and transmissions can be upgraded relatively cheaply for both performance and longevity (thinking mild "chipping" and/or oil coolers), but towing performance would be about the same, IMO. My '02 2500HD Duramax is a bit anemic in power, so I just slow down and run with the semis on upgrades and watch my speed on downgrades. Here in AZ, we have any number of miles-long grades, so it's just part of RVing here, and you just have to learn to live with it. I'm old enough to know that, while I'd love to have a fire-breathing monster of a truck, I certainly don't need it, and I'm better off without it! ๐Ÿ™‚
