How about the year and model number on the new Jayco.

Jayco 28.5 rls it's a 2012 my gear ratio is 4:10

Well based on the spec for that 5er you should be fine. That rig has a big payload of 2,550# I think the average user loads about 1,000 to 1,500# that would put the loaded weight around 9,000# and pin just under 2,000#.

Technical Specifications:

Width (in) 96
Height (in) 151
Interior Height (in) 77

Dry Weight (lbs) 7800

Hitch Weight (lbs) 1755

Not a problem. That's very comparable to our KZ Jag 28JFSS in weight, length and floor plan. Even the same Leland chassis. The 6L GM should dance circles around my 5.4L F250. RPM and performance should be real close to what you had with your TT except no sway and a smooth ride.

You should be fine X2. Had an 02 with the 6.0 and it handled our old TT fine but didn't care much for the larger 5'er. Your rig should be OK. Good luck and congrats on your new rig! Mike

Dont ask for opinions, get the facts from the towing specs for your truck. If you dont have the specs contact the manufacturer.

A fifthwheel and a new F-450 truck arrived yesterday. The fifth was a Royals International. The truck sagged more than I would like if it was our tow vehicle. The reason for air bags but we all know this information, Maybe

Happy for you with the new RV. My question is why ask this question AFTER you bought the 5er?

It'll do it, but don't expect to win any races once your 5er is fully loaded for travel. Any type of elevation rise will certainly tax this combo providing less than desirable towing results, but on flatlands it should hold it's own to some extent. Pin weight will be roughly 2K limiting available payload, airbags might be needed to minimize rear-end sag. Good luck and happy camping!!!

I wouldn't use "dry weight", nobody goes camping without anything in it. you need to use GVW of the 5er and take 20% of that to figure possibly, REAL pin weight you'll put in the bed of your truck...Sounds like a light 5er. You may never pack it to GVW, but I sure wouldn't figure on "dry" or "empty" weights, it's not real world.

May use a lot of fuel, might slow down in the mountains, but again, sounds like a light 5er and your truck should do fine. (I'd still want to know the 5er's GVW and go from there:)).

You should be just fine! Keep your RPM's up when climbing, use your gears appropriately, make sure that your brakes are in good shape on both TV and 5'r. And yeah, as you know, plan your gas stops as you will likely be making many.

Cheers!
