Hello,
I know I could ask this question on the Good Sam sub forum but I wanted to ask other rver's what they thought.
Is the magazine a good subscription to buy or is it just full of ads wanting you to buy 100k motor homes? If you ever read a cigar afficinado magazine you know what I mean.thanks

Everyone has their own opinion. As a long time life member of Good Sam, I have received Trailer life for years. I have enjoyed every one as does my wife. I admit that most of the time there is at least one informative article in each issue, usually more than one.

For example this month, the March Issue, there are four articles about places that are very interesting to see and visit, one good story about improving/modifying the RV (there is one of these every month), along with the regular "Department" sections among the 122 pages that always have bits of valuable information.

I am a little puzzled about the "junk mail" comments. In all the years that we have received Trailer Life I don't remember getting excessive junk mail as a result. Perhaps others have a different perspective.

I let it go when 80 out of 100 pages had a CW or GS ad. To many ads and not enough good stuff.

I let my subscription lapse, but I did enjoy reading it and looked forward to its arrival. I got really cheap subscriptions and have been looking for another deal.

Pretty much sums it up.
In the beginning it was full of trailer tech articles. I remember when they asked what readers wanted and listed more things like life styles/destination/etc. The tech side lost.
It began getting thinner and having more articles on motor homes and destination and other non trailer articles and much more advertising.
I dropped my subscription about 8-9 years ago and don't miss it at all.

I enjoy reading my ever month. During the recession the number of pages did go down but I think that was mostly adds.

Every trade mag has its problems. I like my subscription and will renew. It is nice especially during the winter. You could always get a sample issue and decide from that. Some issues are better than others but overall I like it.

Been getting the magazine for many years and just re-subscribed for 3 years at a very low price. Enjoy many of the articles and the RV Resolutions letters.

I will continue to subscribe since it is cheap enough, (Some of my limited circulation hobby mags run $40/year. More content, sure, but....)

On the subject of junk mail. I have been a GS member for more than ten years. It seems to me that the volume of junk from Affinity Group has fallen off dramatically in the last two or three years. From six or eight cold-call solicitations a month to just the CW sales folder.

I used to get one copy of a mailing addressed to V. A. Worth and another of the same mailing addressed to Allen Worth. At least that stopped. Marcus may have been listening a while back when a bunch of people were saying they wouldn't join GS because of the mail deluge.

Okay thanks.... hopefully good sams reads this thread then and learns something.

Totally disagree, Trailer Life and Motor home magazine have outstanding articles on detestations and repair and maintenance questions. This month in MH there was an article on how to redo slide out toppers and a excellent article on Ft Meyers Florida

It come free with a Good Sam membership but I would gladly pay for it

One hundred percent disagree with *your* totally disagree"!!

Well maybe *only* 95% disagree, LOL!

TL *was* way more informative in the 1970's.

You can be on staff (and pd by the word) - just submit an article that is 100% positive, but most importantly - never, never include *anything* negative about a current or potential advertiser.

Sure - some folks submit maintenance info which easily fits the above criteria.
(That's the 5% "agree")
However, you can get more thorough info almost anywhere.

Beside the advertising, TL is now "surviving" by running "for sale" ads. More current and up-to-date ads (no wait for next-month's issue) can be found in any number of Internet publications.

Lastly - the size has dramatically decreased over the years.

If you (the OP) want to give it a shot, find a hot deal on a subscription offer - but, as a poster already stated, be ready for reams of junk mail for everything GS.

Suggestion - - many public libraries have copies of TL on their periodical shelves.

When you're in the/a library - peruse it without the junk mail "hook" attached..;)
Decide for yourself if a subscription is your cup 'O tea!..:C

I am a subscriber to TL magazine. Have been for 3 years. Last time I renewed it, it was cheap. IIRC about a $1.00+ per issue. Can't really go wrong with that. Yes it has lots of ads but no worse than any other mag. Pick up a diesel truck magazine. It's ridiculously full of ads.
TL has some really good articles on maintenance as well as some good reviews of trailers. JMHO but I think it's worth getting.

Agree....and there are still quite a few articles in the magazine...Q&A's, some pretty good information, and yes the ad's, but been getting the mag for years and the wife and I really enjoy it. I'd say it's worth the subscription price....AND, as goducks stated, no more ad's in it than any other magazine out there today
