Traveling with the roof vent open

Hey All,

Occasionally when on the road I see folks traveling with the roof vents open on their trailers. Made me think now that summer's here, does it really help keep the coach cooler when on the road?

Just curious how many of ya'll travel with the vents open and if it helps?

Thanks!

No covers over vent covers. NO open! I like others said above, have seen ones open w/o covers and they are flopping all over the place. IMO, too weak of support for them. With covers on, can either leave open a crack or all the way. I try to leave ours open (Fantastic Fans w/ rain sensors and are open all the way or closed), but withy them open, I do think it does aid in drawing hot air out of them while going down the road. Another benny whichI'll repeat is w/ covers, can leave vents wide open w/o fear of rain getting into coach.

Even if you don't have the covers it's not going to hurt a darn thing.

I'll dispute that! 2nd or 3rd trip out with my old Komfort, I forgot to close the bath and living room vents. Both were destroyed. Couldn't find the correct lids so ended up having to replace both the lid =and= the crank on both. Ever since, I have all vents buttoned up.

Exactly!! Lots of force with cross winds. In the case of a 2 lane, with oncoming traffic...such as semi-tractor/trailer plus cross wind...could take the hood & mirrors right off a Ram TV.

vent covers are a must
cheap and easy to install
then leave em open 24/7 rain or shine

I've seen them flap around a lot when someone goes by with them open. Looks like a good way to break one. No reason not to have covers on them. Local insurance adjusters call them "hail guards" I wouldn't be without them.

We keep ours open just a bit. The 'Venturi' effect from the small opening promotes are flow.

We have vent covers on ours so they are well protected. If not I would have them closed. Sometimes I have them open but never in dusty areas

Yeah this happened to me on another trailer. Wind buffeting at highway speeds worked one about 4" open that I had cracked open a bit. We stopped in the rain which got every thing in the living room wet.
Installed vent covers and no more issues like that.

JMO, but I would not purposely tow at highway speeds with roof vent lids open, unless having covers over the vent lids. I think in some cases, people do not get their lids closed tight enough, and the wind turbulence on the roof works them open.
