Tread Separation on Maxxis M8008

Has anyone experienced tread separation on Maxxis M8008 tires? I bought 4 of them in 2010 and just replaced 2 this past weekend do to separation. I am concerned because the 2 tires in question were on the same side of the 5th wheel. The tires are ST 225 75R15, 80PSI. I always check the PSI before a trip, so that was correct.

Any input of thoughts as to whether this is a "tire" issue or a possible axle issue? Also, whenever I level side to side, I always have to put the side in question on a 2" board to level the coach, even on "level" pavement campsites.

I'm a pro - that is they pay me ....... wait, they don't any more. Does that make me a pro or not???

I'm of the opinion that a) I want to take a closer look, and b) they are likely separated.

If I were in your shoes, I would schedule a weighing of the trailer. Tire by tire. You really want to look at that side of the trailer.

does the 2" board you are using span the width of the tread? It almost appears that the edge of the tread is hanging off the board and placing stress on the interior chords.

Yes, I should have been more specific. The board is 8" WIDE and 2" inches high.

Are your tires covered all the way to dirt? Be interesting to know if the two tires started out from the same position with a bit of tread peeking out from under the covers. Just a thought... I'd still rather have Maxxis than any other 15" E-rated tire on my trailers.

Damage looks the same on the tire next to that one. Because they look exactly the same, might have run over something?? America's Tire didn't really have an answer.

That side of the coach faces south when parked at home and do I keep the tires covered, I suppose there could be some UV problem, but exactly the same damage on 2 tires on the same side??????

When two of the four Maxxis I bought near the end of 2011 failed, both curbside (where there is more debris) I suspected road hazards.
By May 2013 the two on the other side had also failed. Wasn't a bad lot as each tire had a different (and recent) date of manufacture; none were underinflated or overloaded; 8000 miles towed since May with no further failures. I wondered if those four tires had somehow been mistreated in the warehouse.

Happy Camper...that sure looks like some kind of road hazard damage to me....What does the other tire look like on that side?

Two years ago I had the same tire on my old Jayco and it seperated the same way. Discount Tire told me they were dry rotted.

check the axle and suspension. I had a similar problem where one side of the trailer seemed lower when it shouldn't have been. Upon inspection i found a leaf spring broke, 2 of the 3 leafs were broke in half. The other leaf spring on that side was more than flattened but hadn't broke yet.
Could be an axle problem also. If you don't see anything obvious maybe you can take some measurements and compare to the other side to try to determine conditions.

To Thomasmnile....... funny thing about the weight, the large slide out is on the OTHER side. I'm wondering if it is an axle problem. In September I replaced OEM suspension with Dexter EZ Flex. The OEM had worn a rather elongated hole in the hanger...that was a potential disaster avoided!! I suspect the axle because I ALWAYS have to level that side of the coach when camping, even on level pavement....odd!

Not a tire expert, but since both tires on one side failed, is that side of the trailer heavier vs. the other, ie. long slide? Are you loaded heavy on that particular side? If you maintain your tire inflation at 80 PSI, seems like either an axle issue or weight/weight distribution might be the prime suspects.........:h

I would take the tire to a reputable tire shop and ask them what they think is going on.
