Use Tripod or not?

Hello all,

We recently traded from a Raptor 40 ft. 5th wheel Toy hauler to a Montana 5th wheel. We used a tripod under the front hitch on the toy hauler. Should we use it on the Montana? It is the 3725MK which is 40 ft. as well.

Thank you

If you really need, then you can use it on the Montana..

We have the 6-point leveling now and it is convenient, but not as stable as our prior rig with rotochoks and JT stabilizers.

One other major element of fiver stabilization is the tires on the coach. When we replaced the Marathon China bombs load range E with G614s Load range G, which is from a 10 ply to a 14 ply tire, with 80 PSI to 110 PSI. The firmness of the sidewall is like night and day therefore there is very little flex with the G rated tire.

So I know how to improve your stabilization issue, buy a big fiver with the 6 point level up system and load range G tires!

I have had 4 fivers and used a king pin stabilizer with the first three. The stabilizer did make a difference with our particular applications. With our Montana 3750FL we got the 6 point Level up system and that is the best stabilizer going in my experience. Our fiver is very stable with this system so my king pin stabilizer is in shed.

This new trailer has the AutoLevel system on it and I am still learning how to use it. Sure is nice not have to use blocks to level with. Just pull in, unhook, and turn on the leveling system.

WE have a 40'er as well. Once I put the BIGFOOT hydraulic levelers on we did away with the tripod.

Enjoy the road.

Certainly helps with our 30-foot Rockwood, but I think the locking chocks between the tandem wheels have more of an impact. Used together, the RV is about as solid as it's going to get.

We're just about exactly the same with respect to equipment - on a simple overnighter all we use are the locking chocks (too lazy to put out the tripod), but when we stay any longer, then the tripod makes all the forward/backward rocking stop completely

Some bounce is just because of being on rubber tires and having a suspension. But, if you have interior movement, like movement when someone is walking around, the washer is on spin cycle, etc, a Bi or Tri pod did not work for us so we have been lovin our aftermarket permanently installed stabilizers for 8 years and have been completely happy.
That said; we are fulltime RV'ers so we are always in our Carriage 5th wheel.
I do believe that is is a personal decision as to what to use or not to use. Some people are happy with their tri pod others are not.
I think it also depends on how often you camp: a weekend warior, a some timer, part timer or fulltimer. But the biggest decision you need to make is "If the interior movement bothers you, then you need to do something about it; either tri pod or stabilizers. It really isn't something someone else can tell you what to do because it is so individual.
It bothered me terribly so we fixed our problem. Hugs, Di

Is it a matter of some like to bounce around when walking in 5th wheel to add to that camping feeling, no discernible difference or none of them work? I don't mean beat a dead horse but as a newbie to 5th wheels and without unlimited cash at my disposal, I really would like to know if there is one of these that are best at eliminating the bounce. Thanks for your opinions.

I apologize for the late info. The trailer is new to me I forget all the cool new stuff.

Ok so no need for the tripod since I have the 6 point Auto-leveling system. Thank you all for your input.

I quit hauling mine along several years ago and got the JT Strongarms. Personal preference.

I installed the Strongarms on the Toy hauler and what a difference. This new trailer has the Autolevel stuff on it. Still learning how to use it. I should have mentioned that. That is why I am asking about the tripod.

Waste of time to use the tripod if you have the autoleveling system.

That would work!

I see no place to do that on out TrailAir. Even if I could I still would not use the stand.

With the auto level system, assuming it is 6 point, you should be able to make the trailer feel pretty solid unless the site is way out of level and you have to extend the jacks really far. My Fuzion usually feels stable, but this past weekend I had to have the front jacks fully extended and it got a little wobbly. I only carry one piece of 2"x8"x8" board for each jack. If I go back to that campground, I will take a few more pieces with me so I don't have to extend the jack so far.

I had a tripod from my prior fifth wheel and tried it a few times with the level up system on the Fuzion and it didn't seem to be worth the effort. I gave the tripod to my neighbor to use.
