:h:h:h:h:h I'm wondering if we've done lost our minds???:h:h:h:h:h

I retired from the Air Force Apr 1, 1992. I retired from the Dept. of Defense April 4, 2014. My wife retired from the US Justice Dept. Oct 1, 2010. We had planned to hit the road 3/4 time on April 5th this year as soon as I walked out the door. However, every single post-retirement travel plan for the remainder of this year that we'd made and was so looking forward to has fallen through for various reasons. The 5'er hasn't moved an inch.

Neither of us had any intention, NONE, of working after I retired this past April 5th. We were pulling out with the 5'er and hit'n the road. Now I'm back to work full time (4 days a week)at a new job (hey...they came looking for me!!!) and DW is thinking about opening up a floral arrangement shop. Guess we'll continue to work until I turn 66 in 5 more years. Just seems like it's thing for us to do. I only retired last April because I was forced to. Huh!!! Who'da thought???:h

Happy camping!!! See y'all down the road!!!:)

I retired at 50. My wife is still in her 40s. We started full timing last fall and never intend to work again unless it's a temporary fun job in an amusement park or resort setting. If it's not fun, we're not doing it.

Love 4 seasons...don't know if I EVER want to just be in "summer" all year round...Winter, spring, summer, fall, all beautiful and worth seeing in the mountains.....but will see what we see when retirement rolls around...

I'm younger that a good portion of you guys, and I don't think I'll ever be =able= to quit working. Thanks to our elected vermin from city to D.C. and The Pretender on top, I doubt I'll have any retirement left. Sure as hell not counting on =anything= from SS, that's for sure.

Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with you. As a financial advisor, I see this all the time with clients who are retiring. The psychological change from working to not working is often overlooked and only the financial aspect is considered. However, I spend more time counselling people on the change of lifestyle than about the money required. More often than not, retirement is a process. Dont' look back, just look ahead and life will unfold as it should.

Just think, you can put in another 20 years and retire a third time. I think someone is hesitant / unsure about retiring so they're finding reasons to keep their work security blankets............

I retired at 59 1/2. Sometimes I think about going back to work, but that usually doesn't last longer than about 15 seconds.

Well, I hope you're wrong about things can start going bad at 66:)...I'm 64 and plan on retiring when I'm 66.....so, I'll get back to you on how bad it starts getting at 66:)
Well, I'll give you until 70 then!

A lot, of course, depends on *your* condition. Overweight? Smoke? Blood pressure? Heart ok? Cholesterol? Lingering disease? Heredity?

From the time you retire, assuming you're healthy then, how many more years do you think you'll continue to be healthy? Yeah, pretty hard to say. Of course, nobody wants to run out of money before running out of time.

It is a delicate balance. I guess my point is, don't get greedy!

agree...just been part of my plan, with the wife being 2 yrs younger than I am, to wait until I'm 66....

Health is pretty good, when I retire, it'll get better:)

I retired at 43 and went back to work for the same city a year later. Worked there 6 more years and left again last July 2013. Had some friends drag me in to private security that same month and here I sit now a year later. This job is now winding down but I just don't know if I want to work after this.

I have too many friends that feel you have to work and "get all the green" while you can. Funny thing is, they're all broke. I work because I want to, not because I have to. But at some point in life you have to start enjoying life.

There could be regrets no matter what you do, but don't let one of those regrets be that you had to give up your dream of 3/4 timing. Health issues have a habit of creeping up the older we get.....

Retired on June 20th after 41 years of high stress jobs. No smoking, no drinking. I felt sick on Saturday. Went to the cardiologist on Monday and started test on Wednesday. Seven days later I was in the hospital getting a stent put in. As I was being wheeled into the operating room I made a promise to myself that I would not go back to work unless it was what I wanted to do, and when I wanted to do it. Maybe in a few months if I get bored.......

Hey Crickeydog, good to hear from you, it's been a while. I have been going through some of those things, but next year will be different. I have been a non worker for just over a year and the wife will be done on Friday end of this week. We will be starting next year for sure. If you really want to go full time, as the commercial says...JUST DO IT.
Have a good one and good luck.

Sounds like you won't see us all down the road!!!

Have to wonder what the purpose is - of your post?..:@

Should we be happy, sad, congratulatory, conciliatory......
or simply be saying .....Gee Whiz!!

I retired at 55 and never looked back - or had any regrets.
If I wanted to continue working - would have been the same job.

Life is too short - and you only "go around once"!!

But, if working is what you *enjoy* - *want* to do, or *must* do - hey - - more power to ya!..:C

~

Well anyway.....whatever works for you.
