Well, I was pulling with a 2014 ram 2500. The issue I had was only with pin weight and payload. My payload was 2,300lbs with a pin weight of 3,100lbs dry. So, I added the air bags and it was at that point I realized my rear end had coils not leaf springs...

Put about 9k miles of towing on it, biggest trip was to Yellowstone. Had several issues over the past year, blew out an air bag on one trip, both shocks have been replaced for leaks and I was in the R46 recal (frame weld separation on the front end) took it in for the 30k service and they wouldn't give it back. They showed me where the weld was starting to separate. Ouch! Was told a team of welders was flying around the country to re weld the frame. Another 2014 had been there 5 weeks already waiting for them.

This was the week before our new years trip to Lawson's Landing. Lucky for me the dealer took pity on me and gave me a loner truck with the 5th wheel prep package.

I ordered a 2016 3500 4x4 crew cab Larmie SWD and it should be here in a few weeks now. I'm still going to put bags on it, but my new payload will be 3,980lbs.

Wondering what other 357 carbon owners are pulling it with and if you've had any issues....

Shouldn't have trouble towing within the limits of a 2500...If one wants a better ride because they don't tow very often, I would think one would STILL want a truck that wasn't over loaded, and that they felt safe towing with.

OP's 5er has a GVW of 16,500#..believe that's a bit much for the 2500...could have a pin weight of 3300#. That's why some recommended the 3500SRW truck

Airbags only level the load, don't give you any more GVWR, or a higher RAWR...just help level the load.

Why not buy a DRW truck? They're not much more expensive than that 2500.
I'm pulling a 327 with a DRW 2015 3500. No issues so far.

Not much difference between a 2500 and a 3500SRW truck, but comparing like trims, The 3500 dually is quite a bit more than a 2500...and if you get the Aisin tranny in 3500, it'll be even more..

Yes the next few weeks are going to feel like years! Haha.

Another case of trying to make the wrong tool work.......

Sorry to hear of your troubles prior to the recall issues.

Recalls.........marketing tool of the 21st Century

That is one heck of a dealer........need to continue patronizing them.

That 2016 3500 will be the right tool. Shouldn't need an air bags.
Next few weeks are going to drag by.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Ram 2500s all use coil springs instead of the leaf set up on the 3500.
Most owners seem to be happy with them and this is the first time I've heard of an issue, even with guys towing well over their payload limits.
Sounds like you have a good dealer, pretty generous of him to offer a tow rig.
Although it's not good when new trucks are sitting in the shop that long for a design issue.
Did you get the Aisin trans on the new truck? Another 100 ft/lbs of Tq.

It's not frame weld separation on the front end...It's the track bar welded to the frame....may or may not need brackets to reinforce the track bar, or re-weld of track bar to the frame.

..Forget "dry" or "empty" weight, it's a joke when you're trying to figure out what truck you need for the job. Use the TH's GVW and figure at least 20% of that number to get a more "realistic" idea of what kind of pin weight you'll be putting on the hitch in the bed of your truck.

Looks like your unit has a GVW of 16,500#, which, if fully loaded, could have a pin weight up to 3300#...Believe the 3500 SRW will do a better job for you than the 2500.
