Whats Your Real Weights? Truck and Trailer. The Real Deal

I donโ€™t know if itโ€™s been done before or not but I was thinking about keeping a running list of real truck weights by year and type, and trailer weights by brand, size and what the total combined weight is of each guys rig. I was hoping the info would be a help for guys wondering about what the real weights are for a certain type of truck and to keep track of the more popular brand 5th wheel trailers. Another thing that will come out of it will be to see just how many guys really know what they are towing and if they know what their weight capacities are.
Iโ€™m sure it will take some time to compile a list and it will grow as guys add there info but Iโ€™m hoping it will help the newer guys in the long run to be directed back over to this thread in the future.
Iโ€™ll keep the TV lists to mainly the big 3 and from ยพ ton and up and Iโ€™ll try to keep the 5ers in a group by real GVW, length, and then manufacture. Any ideas are welcome as long as it makes things easier. And only real information can be given, so no guessing allowed. Only guys that have scaled there rigs or are totally certain of the weights.
Letโ€™s see if I can keep the format real simple to type down and that will make it simpler for guys to refer back to and to keep track of.
Here we goโ€ฆโ€ฆ

This is a great, very helpful thread.

Please indicate if you are full-time or not when posting your figures. Also,

How much of your weight is cargo? And how do your figures stack up against the mfr's CCC rating?

I would be interested to see if there is significant difference between full-timer cargo weight and not FT. And what are typical CCCs for FT-ing.

Ford 250 PSD 6.4 SD '08 4x4 Crew
total wt: 8550 ( two people, dog , some luggage, hitch)
GVW: 10,000
Pin wt: 2100
Total hitched : 10650 (truck fails here)

Cameo 34'
dry wt: 11,733
total wt: 14,000

Max fiver for this truck: 15,300
Truck payload: 2400
GCVW : 23,000
Truck also fails in pin wt-payload.

We are new to this Rv life. I allowed a salesman to convince me that I had the correct truck for the fiver we planned to purchase. In fact, we purchased one that was "lighter" than the one we originally planned to buy, and one of the lightest that Carriage makes. Our overall weight and pin weights are less than what appears to be a majority of fivers in the same length of fiver class. If we exceed the GVW ( ok with the GCWR : within the 23000) but fail in the other categories, what are the real safety ramifications?
If a majority of five drivers are also over their GVW limits, where are the GVW "police", and why don't we see more catastrophic accidents? After all, it is not so much a towing issue as it is a "stopping " issue. You would think that industry wide there would be some sort of listed recommendations for trucks and fifth wheel manufacturers. And you would think that more often the state police would periodically monitor fifth wheel drivers to check on weights, because it just might be a financial gold mine for them with fines and the like.
We now must consider our options, among which would be to purchase a one ton dually, or even a one/one-half dually. I am not certain about the latter, but it certainly would provide a much wider margin of safety. I am bewildered by it all at times, and wonder how many folks feel the same way.
Thanks for the opportunity to ask questions and "pontificate"! <>< al fisher

I have a 2008 Ford F350 DRW King ranch. I weighed it soon after I bought it in 2008 and the weights empty were steer axle 4780lb Drive axle 3680lb gross weight 8460lb. I weighed it with my Newmar Cypress trailer yesterday (10-19-2009) and the weights were steer axle-4720lb Drive axle-6840lb Trailer axle-11700lb Gross weight-23260lb. According to my owners manual this truck is rated for a combined gross weight of 23500lb. My wife wasnt in the truck and ther were no groceries or clothes in the trailer but other that that it was pretty much ready for a trip. 1/4 tank water and full propane.
